My first favourite band was...P.O.D. I'm glad I only occasionally like things nostalgically.

Even I can't claim that. Seriously, Chris?

Blank. 06-24-2016 01:09 PM

I think most people are that way. The first band they like is a **** type mainstream act. Later they realize that they suck.

I blame you.

Frownland 06-24-2016 01:18 PM

I never even really heard a full jazz song until I was 14. That is abhorrent.

Blank. 06-24-2016 01:21 PM

Still blame you.

Batlord actually nailed the review. Geek usa really is the best song on the album. I can't believe none of you queers mentioned GISH which is clearly their best album. **** all of you all, Sincerely Billy Corgan's boyfriend.

I listened to a bit of Gish, and if it's their best, it's only because the rest of the band doesn't drown out the drummer, who is clearly the most badass member of the band. Billy Corgan's guitar is a distraction from the pummeling of their drummer, and the production of Siamese Dream and Mellon Collie pretends otherwise.

But the songs themselves are just as dull.

Chula Vista 06-24-2016 02:11 PM

At the time? Really cool and unique stuff.

In hindsight? Didn't hold up well at all. Same could be said for 95% of 90s rock.

Shoegaze.

The fact that you even thought to bring up that wannabe genre makes everything you post from now on basically ridiculous and unworthy of serious consideration.

So you were ignorant of the genre, nailed it.

But Shoegaze is as much of a genre as rock and pop. I don't understand what you're saying here.

kibbeh 06-24-2016 04:59 PM

shoegaze is ****ing real

Blank. 06-24-2016 05:23 PM

Yeah. I think it's the worst genre ever.

kibbeh 06-24-2016 05:26 PM

well then you don't know what you're talking about.

R&B is my least favorite. I can only take too many soulfully whiny black male singers over boring beats and synths.

I could agree. But i find the soft tone of shoegaze to be annoying.

Old or new? Because old R&B from the 70s is the best thing since slice bread.

Include the 50's & 60's in that mix and now you're on it!

Shoegaze = Stupidest genre name ever. Music sucks too.

Quote:

‘A little punk, a little jazz, a little shoegaze’: meet the new blues

Since its inception in the American south in the early years of the 20th century, the blues has been repeatedly rethought, redreamed, restructured and re-presented; from the early blues WC Handy heard played in a Tutwiler railway station, to the female blues singers such as Mamie Smith and Ma Rainey in the 1920s, the Delta blues of Robert Johnson, and the electric blues of T-Bone Walker, and on to the British blues of the 50s and 60s that brought Alexis Korner, Led Zeppelin, the Rolling Stones and Eric Clapton, as well as more recent incarnations, led by the White Stripes and the Black Keys. It has spun out from spirituals and slave plantations, crossed gender, race, class, states, rivers and oceans, and been played in juke joints, cellar bars, concert halls and stadiums.

Never thought of the Smashing Pumpkins as Shoegaze, more like College/Alternative Rock with a bit of ~Grunge/Desert/Stoner Rock riffs thrown in. Wikipedia goes crazy with the genres that SP covers.

OccultHawk 06-24-2016 10:31 PM

Can't go with stoner rock at all.

There's nothing stoner about them.

The riffs. Listen to Siva, and think of Debbie Google's bass, Chad Sexton's drums and Stoner Rock guitar riffs. (if I wasn't on my tablet I would post the YT vid)

I know that song. To me it's a stretch but I guess it depends on how you define the genre. I think it gives SP too much credit for being successfully eclectic. I even think shoegaze is being generous to their abilities. I see them as a straight forward rock band.

A genre of music named after guitarists that stand zombie like on stage and stare down at their Boss pedals?

Seriously?

*cough*

Yup.

Writing off a genre because of its name is as retarded as, well, you. Especially when you like music that has a heavy shoegaze element....

Did you just ignore my post or...

Because if you read it, you'd realize that you are praising a band that has some strong elements in the genre that you claim doesn't exist. Talk about being a hypocrite.
