albums you tried getting into?

Ever listen to an album that was recommended to you by friends/family and you tried to get into it but just for the life of you, you just couldn't?

For me the album was Goo Goo Dolls' Gutterflower. I've always liked the GGDs but this album was just too much. I noticed they were beginning to turn in Dizzy Up the Girl. I think Iris really was a turning point for them. You could see a change of direction was coming in A Boy Named Goo, with Name. Its not a ****ty album by any means and it scores quite highly on Allmusic. I just couldn't get into it.

Anything by Daniel Lopatin. I've tried, dammit!

Anything by TV on the Radio. They're dead to me now.

Anything by Super Furry Animals. Nope.

Anything by Sonic Youth. I much prefer Thurston Moore's solo stuff.

Their first few releases were great, but definitely a case of diminishing returns with the later material.

I hear you on this one. They also some how seemed like they should be good (I think maybe it was the cover artwork) but they just never delivered.

A big one for me was Kanye West's My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy. I gave this album so many chances because I heard such great things about it, but it still just sounded like bland, squeaky clean, Glee-ish boredom.

Dear Science > Return To Cookie Mountain > Desperate Youth, Bloodthirsty Babes > Nine Types Of Light > Seeds

I enjoy all thoroughly except Seeds, I can live without that one.

Lemonade by Beyoncé. Further perpetuates my disdain for that hoe.

Aren't her and Rihanna the same person?

It goes exactly in chronological order for me. Never bothered to check out Seeds.

That's one of the first albums that came to mind for me as well.

No love for OK Calculator? I've personally never listened to it.

I have it and it's pretty terrible, but it's just a homemade demo and you could at least see the potential of what it was about to lead up to. I don't really think of it as an actual release though.

Quadrophenia by the Who, more mediocre than Who's Next. Really a let down since they were on a roll up until Tommy, and I expected it to be better than Who's Next.

Pet Sounds, only has two nice songs but I had to slog through the rest of the Album.

Surrealistic Pillow is an okay album, nothing really special about it apart from those two awesome songs.

I can't get into Quadrophenia or Surrealistic Pillow either.
I also can't get into Frampton Comes Alive.

I was going to post that one as well.

And I'm a fan of Captain Beefheart, have all of the officially released albums, and enjoy the rest of them to one degree or another. I've given Trout Mask Replica multiple listens over many years, trying to get into it, but it's never done anything for me.

You like Lick My Decals Off, Baby but not TMR? I get not digging TMR (though I highly highly recommend you all keep trying), but LMDOB is basically TMR part two.

There's just nothing like it and that's why it's the GOAT.

Lick my Decals off is much more focused imo.

Anything by the Beatles. I just can't get into it.

More like the scapegoat...

You scapegoat the album for what purpose?

I mean, it's the album that got away with it.

Although I love the Beatles, I can see where you're coming from. There's a certain shallowness to everything they wrote.

Lick My Decals Off, Baby is my second least favorite Captain Beefheart album but there's a bit more there that holds my interest over Trout Mask Replica.

Zhanteimi 06-21-2016 03:32 AM

Anything by The Mountain Goats. I like them well enough, and there are a few stand-out songs, but all in all, there are simply too many albums in their discography that all sound the same and just drag ooooonnn.
