All among my favourites and all highly influential, albeit some in somewhat obscure niches. I'm afraid they are mostly pretty old. While music nowadays isn't worse than it used to be, it's way too fragmented to really make out influential albums. Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band – Trout Mask Replica Henry Cow - Legend Magma – Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh Massacre - Killing Time Can - Monster Movie Pere Ubu - The Modern Dance This Heat - This Heat Naled City - Naked City Ornette Coleman - The Shape Of Jazz To Come Peter Brötzmann - Machine Gun Burzum - Filosofem King Crimson - In The Court Of The Crimson King Talk Talk - Spirit Of Eden Talking Heads - Remain In Light Miled Davis - Bitches Brew The Velvet Underground - The Velvet Underground & Nico Wu-Tang Clan - Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) Lou Reed - Metal Machine Music Roxy Music - Roxy Music Throbbing Gristle - The Second Annual Report Suicide - Suicide T. Rex - Electric Warrior Einstürzende Neubauten - Halber Mensch Television - Marquee Moon Manuel Göttsching - E2-E4 Hanatarashi - Hanatarashi Harry Partch - Delusion Of The Fury

Even though I don't like them as much, I think that Deceit and Transformer are both more influential than those two albums.

Ignore everyone here, Dirty Sprite 2 by Future is what you're looking for.

I've got to admit that I haven't listened to other Lou Reed albums in years. Might be time to give Transformer another chance.

The s/t gets the edge for me for having Horizontal Hold and Fall of Saigon, but I can agree with that.

Great list Grindy
Frownies, I wouldn't be so quick to underestimate the long term significance of MMM. It just keeps shining like the sun. There's so much beauty in it; It's like a work of nature as much as a work of art. I think there's an influential driving force there comparable to Cage. It's speculation because it hasn't completely blossomed yet but I believe MMM is a very powerful seed and may be the only thing Lou Reed did that will still be commonly acknowledged 300 years from now. Or maybe that's just the world I wished I lived in. |

I definitely recognize that, but I feel like with Transformer's place in our culture it's the more influential one. I think it's his best album without a doubt. Maybe in the long term like you mention it'll get its fair dues.

I really came on board late with Future but he really is something special. I think though he's one of the last voices of signicance in hip hop though. And I still say Earl has been given the final last words.
