They're definitely psychedelic but I'm not sure if I'd call it 60s psychedelic. I agree on Can though. Which one do you think had more influence? I'm leaning towards silver apples on that one.

In my opinion Can by far: Spacemen 3/ Spiritualized, Radiohead, The Fall
This doesn't necessarily make Can a better band but they left much more to build on. That hypnotic long groove thing was open ended and easy to work with. Silver Apples are too entrenched in their time period to grow in the same way. I don't think you agree with that. I think you'll probably agree about Can but think I'm being too dismissive of Silver Apples. So let me clear in my respect for Silver Apples. It's just that a band could be influenced by Can much later and still sound progressive or futuristic. A band heavily influenced by Silver Apples are going to be some kind of neo-psychedelia. |

Silver Apples influenced Can ergo they're responsible for Can's influences .

That may be a gotcha post but I think that's a fair point - not the end all point but important to consider I like doing that going back and back Look at my first post in this thread |

This album is fourteen years old but I'm still going to talk about it.
Queens Of The Stone Age - Songs For The Deaf Its hard to say what music is the most influential, but I've always been told this is the album that made stoner rock a mainstream genre. |

My vote goes to Black Sabbath for that one. There are a lot of bands like COC and Clutch that prefaced them with the more modern stoner rock.

First time I heard Zappa, too. That xylophone solo melted my skull.
