Best Albums of 2016

Alright MB, here we are in June already, and as the official half way point in the year, I think it's time we share our favourite releases from the first half of 2016. This is a good way to catch up on anything that some of us may have missed throughout what has (in my opinion) been a pretty decent year for music releases so far. I'll go ahead and kick it off with my top 10 from the first 6 months of the year.

10. Entropia - Ufonaut
9. Rome Fortune - Jerome Raheem Fortune
8. Chance the Rapper - Coloring Book
7. Ty Segall - Emotional Mugger
6. The Body - No One Deserves Happiness
5. Anderson .Paak - Malibu
4. Death Grips - Bottomless Pit
3. Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
2. Vektor - Terminal Redux
1. David Bowie - Blackstar

Franco Pepe Kalle 06-01-2016 07:48 PM

Nice list. Let's see what others will say.

Zhanteimi 06-01-2016 08:10 PM

I've been waiting for this thread! :)

Off the top of my head, my tops are (in no particular order):

Sturgill Simpson - A Sailor's Guide to Earth
Adele - 25
David Bowie - Blackstar
Mutual Benefit - Skip a Sinking Stone
Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool
Mogwai - Atomic
Animal Collective - Painting With
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Nonagon Infinity
Grimes- Halfaxa
Chairlift - Moth

DeadChannel 06-01-2016 08:20 PM

Death Grips - Bottomless Pit
King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard - Nonagon Infinity
Matos - Ultimate Care II
David Bowie (rip) - Blackstar
Average Joey - Next Exit // Rest Neglected

Next month's gonna be pretty big, though, with Swans, The Kills and Nails dropping.

I have a very strong feeling both the new Swans and Nails albums will end up in my top 10 of the year. Everything released from both groups in terms of singles and teasers have been fantastic, not to mention they both have incredible catalogues up to this point in their career.

Frownland 06-01-2016 08:46 PM

A cursory list until I remember other good things.

The Pop Group - The Boy Whose Head Exploded
Oranssi Pazuzu - Värähtelijä

Open Mic Eagle and Paul White - Hella Personal Film Festival
Chthe'ilist - Le dernier crépuscule
The Gerogerigegege - Monei Hai
Ulver - ATGCLVLSSCAP
Tim Hecker - Love Streams

bob. 06-02-2016 01:34 AM

personally i feel this has been an amazing year for music so far....and i agree that the new Swans album will likely be my number one....especially since it is the final album with their current line up...as it stands now my list would look like this

4. Lost Salt Blood Purges - Only the Youngest Grave

the Youth Code and Aluk Todolo are really a tie....i seriously could not decide between the two albums

Top 5 EPs

1. Rome - Coriolan
2. The Sad Bastard Book Club - And the Sirens Sang of a Time When There Were No Foghorns
3. Lush - Blind Spot
4. Chelsea Wolfe - Hypnos / Flame
5. Agoraphobic Nosebleed - Arc

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 06-02-2016 10:13 AM

Great list bob. The only albums I'm familiar with are those by The Body, Xiu Xiu and the OST for The VVitch, all of which I loved.

UXO and Tacocat have been in my queue for quite some time now, so I think it's about time I finally give them a listen!

Goofle 06-02-2016 10:40 AM

This stuff is hard nowadays for me since being banned from RYM. I'll post mine later. But I'll be downloading quite a lot of them.

You got banned for good? Wow. Now I'll never get to know the best white men in music :(

Goofle 06-02-2016 11:51 AM

Yeah. I called the admins fascists and pointed out their hypocrisy in the "comment" section after they banned me for a week. I returned to find myself permanently banned. I'm sure the irony was lost on them.

Frownland 06-02-2016 12:09 PM

Maybe calling people fascist is something they don't really like. Just a guess.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 06-02-2016 12:10 PM

That's lame. I wasn't very active on RYM aside from just rating albums, but you were one of the few people who seemed to always have quality lists and you always came through with the bangers too.

R.I.P dude

Take this as a grain of salt, because I didn't like Oshin either, but I thought Is the Is Are sucked a big fat one.

Zhanteimi 06-02-2016 05:41 PM

LOL

Thanks for the input. :)

Really liked it actually, it's my number 16 for the year. Might go higher with a few more listens. Nothing's gonna top NOTM in my eyes.

DeadChannel 06-02-2016 08:07 PM

Yeah NOTM is my favourite too, but Bottomless Pit is hella on point.

Bottomless Pit's the biggest disappointment of the last few years.

DeadChannel 06-03-2016 09:08 PM

^Bottomless Pit is one of the best records in DG's discography.
