Longest Albums You've Heard.

It's only a matter of time before someone mentions "Sleep" by Max Richter, which I believe is over eight hours long.

I can't claim to have heard it. I'd like to know if anyone actually has heard the whole thing without nodding off partway through.

I should say only a matter of time before someone claims that as the longest album they have listened to.

Listening to "Sleep" while awake would be way too boring, although it's still pretty good in small portions.
I did listen to it while sleeping. Same with Robert Rich's "Somnium" and "Perpetual", which are about as long (one's 7 and one 8 hours).
I did listen to Fushitsusha's "Secret Black Box" though, which is 6,5 h long.

I'm having a hard time coming up with a response to this thread, but that's probably my answer (it's got some of their best stuff too).

Maybe you could at least mention how long the album is and what your experience was like, if you're going to start a thread about long albums.

The reading I'm familiar with is Patrick Healy's 35-hour recitation. Is there another I should check out? EDIT: I see now that I have two audiobooks of The Wake - my newly-acquired Healy reading and the abridged version by Jim Norton with Marcella Riordan. The later is far more professionally done, though not as long as Healy's.

Glad to see Richter's Sleep mentioned, though there are many longer works not yet discussed.

I thought the thread would have started with "7 Skies H3" aka The 24-Hour Song Skull by The Flaming Lips.

The Guinness Book of World Records states that "The Devil Glitch", a 69-minute song containing over 500 verses, is the longest pop song ever recorded. It entered the record books in July of 1997.

One of my favorite singles deserves mention - "Blue Room" by The Orb clocked in at 40:00. From Wiki:

In the digital age, eligible and ineligible recordings quickly blur together, as there are countless tracks by artists of varying notoriety which register days in length, ranging from Irv Teibel and Tony Conrad-inspired environmental field recordings to the idling ambient sound of various engines of Starfleet.

And then there is the matter of infinite loop music. The locked groove at the end of the vinyl issue of GY!BE's F#A#8 suggests that the album is endless. Hundreds of animations from the Flash-era do the same, from Weebls-Stuff's "Amazing Horse" to Nyan Waits.
