What?!? I can't believe there are people out there that don't like girl singers in bands. That's terrible! And why has no one mentioned Stevie Nicks? I am practically in love with her! Ugh don't even try to say girl singers suck...it makes me sad : (

judas_priest 12-08-2005 12:57 PM

Girls don't have the voice to sing in metal or rock bands though.

Health 12-08-2005 02:19 PM

Obviously men and woman sound different when they sing.
There are female singers who make the music that much better, but then there are some that make it that much worse, visa versa for men.
With all the difference's in how people sing, style is a big factor.
Woman are usually assosiated with softer, more melo music, but men are also capable of softer tones.
In retrospect, woman vocalists in rock bands = A-okay.

Baloney...There are some good metal bands out there with female vocalists, Lucuna Coil and Walls of Jericho are just two examples...Anyway, heres some other good rock bands with a female member or two.

Heart
Fleetwood Mac
Jefferson Airplane
Janis Joplin
Velvet Underground (with Nico)
Blonde
X
Renaissance
Portishead
Sonic Youth
The Pixies
Talking Heads
Kate Bush
Patti Smith
Mostly Autumm
Skunk Anansie
The Donnas
Alanis Morrisette

judas_priest 12-08-2005 04:12 PM

Yeah, fair enough. I'm not a fan of any of the bands you listed, but that's just my opinion :)
I really want to play guitar in a metal band but most people seem to think that girls don't have the right image for metal. I don't agree with that, I just think they are not good singers for the type of music.

Lament_a_Morte 12-09-2005 02:22 AM

re

I love bands with female vocalists and bands that are all female.. like for instance Kittie are my favorite band and yes they are metal not rock but they are great. I love otep Metal also but great female vocals. Pat Benatar, Blondie, Concrete Blonde, Pink(yes she is rock), My Ruin metal/rock/sludge, Heart, Siouxsie and The Banshees, The Creatures, The Kidney Thieves industrial, Dynabyte, Flowing Tears, Leaves Eyes, Liv Kristine, Theatre Of Tragedy, Nightwish, The Gathering, Joan Jett, Lita ford and yes I know most of these are a bit alternative as in "goth" but they are either rock or metal and have female members and they deserve respect just like the men in music..

I know she's 'poppy' but Melissa Etheridge has a fabulous voice. Some of her songs are rather rock orientated so thats why I let her slip under the radar and gave her a mention in this thread. :D

Cheese 12-11-2005 01:40 AM

Ok then! What about Chrissy Amphlett from The Divinyls. Not a bad looker in her day plus her voice wasn't bad

Scarlett O'Hara 12-11-2005 02:23 AM

The Crandberries! I also like The Donnas.

Umm excuse me well she isn't a crooner by any means but does WENDY O WILLIAMS ring a bell????? I mean she went from punk to metal and even dabbled (though horribly) in rap and was more then effective in metal and punk, metall esepcially, she had moer balls then many guys at that time

totally seperate style all together, but no-one seems to be mentioning Pat Benatar, either...

sleepy jack 12-13-2005 10:09 PM

^After reading that one post i think i like you :)

and their is ALOT of crust bands (nausea, contravene, witch hunt) that have female singers and (not to be sexist) i prefer them over most male crust singers.

MURDER JUNKIE 12-13-2005 10:14 PM
