Some people always have to be the wise guy. Since this is a forum for music lovers, the reasonably intelligent person would know the word artist would mean "musical artist" and not the "painter type artist".

Frownland, you need to get a new dictionary. The Merriam-Webster dictionary I have defines artist: 1; one who practices an art; esp: one who creates objects of beauty 2; ARTISTE.

Artiste definition: a skilled public performer.

Music is defined as: the science or art of combining tones into a composition having structure and continuity: also: vocal or instrumental sounds having rhythm, melody, or harmony.

So according to the above definitions, an artist is one who practices an art and music is defined as an art, then a musician can be and is called an artist.

In the future, please don't respond to a thread post if you can't make a positive contribution to the conversation.

It's weird that out of everybody that makes smart ass remarks on this site, it's Frownland that people have decided to call out. Stick around for awhile and you'll see we're all just as bad if not worse.

Hey, I don't mind people taking the occasional dig at the OP. I have done it myself. It's just that the ratio of genuine posts to smartarse posts seems so ridiculously low.

I sincerely believe that this thread was made for painters and sculptors.

Bob you are fairly new around here and you new guys may not get this but this community has a certain mindset that was here before you and it's best to acclimate to it than to fight it. Over time hopefully you'll see it has to be that way to keep this forum interesting.

There's nothing stopping you from taking threads seriously but don't expect old members who already seen these threads to take them as seriously as you.

In my short time on MB I have noticed that people seem to have trouble actually running with the subject of a thread, as specified in the opening post. For every genuine response to the OP, there appear to be about half a dozen posts consisting of nitpicking, deliberately misunderstanding the question, etc. My interpretation of the OP was that it is asking who is your single favourite musician or band. What's so hard about that?
Many of us who have been here for years are bored and jaded. We've seen these and all kinds of other threads replicated over and over again, and so our idea of fun becomes subverting them rather than honestly participating, since we've already done that song and dance five or ten times already.

That's not to say that these threads don't have any worth, but us oldies are bastards who enjoy a bit of anarchy in a world of "been there, done that".

But to seriously answer the question, I'd say as far as careers go, Bathory might just be my fav, since they pioneered two of my absolute favorite styles of music (80s black metal and... whatever you want to call their Viking metal phase).

But I probably listen to more Manowar than anything else, just because they're fun and have about a million songs that stick in your head for days. I'd throw Ke$ha in there for similar reasons.

If I'm looking at my Last.FM page, then Acid Bath would take the spot, but that's almost entirely due to their album When the Kite String Pops, which I listen to on a regular basis over and over again. One album or not, it's hard to argue with just how much I listen to Acid Bath. If I'm coming up short with ideas of what to listen to for the day, then there's a very good chance that I'll just go with Acid Bath, cause I just never get tired of them and am almost never in a non-Acid Bath mood.

I felt the same little nit-pick that you notice happens on the site. I tried to start a thread about something that I'm currently interested in, and Murphy's Law prevailed, and I mess-upped the opening post. I decided to chuck it after the negative feedback. I thought to myself no worries I do something else with it. You have to be like a duck and let it roll off your back like water.

Funny, when I'm trying to decide whether or not I like a piece of music, that number denoting the release date plays little or no part in forming my opinion.
Ten minutes later the same person start a thread about ....dates! The oldest dates for recorded music they own.
