Wow, you sure were unclear about that, weren't you? It appears that you have survived the trollheart attack, whatever that was, so I feel safe in saying that I too, shall live to see another day.

Now, back on topic, Springsteen played Take It Easy as a tribute to Frey tonight in Chicago...

This is just stupid. I made it clear that I know there were issues with Frey, nobody denies that. What I had a problem with, as I explained to you, was your dismissive attitude towards him and your intimation that he intimidated people (hey! Good use of two almost identical words beside each other, huh?) ---- whether this was correct or not is not the issue --- and that you did it about six posts into his RIP thread, and less than an hour after it had been created.

I wouldn't take anyone to task over pointing out he was no saint BUT NOT AN HOUR AFTER THE THREAD WAS OPENED!

I answered so fast because the forum is a bit slow these days and I didn't want the OP to feel ignored. I thought it was better to say something than nothing at all. I didn't say it because I dislike the Eagles. I do like them. I just like some members more, and a bit ambivalent about the other. I didn't think that the ambivalence would come off as totally negative.

If you read the opening post nothing was expressed that the OP was upset. Didn't say he was fan, or not a fan, that he liked or disliked the band which Glenn came from, the Eagles. It was just plain retelling of what he heard on the TV, radio, or read online. I think that set the tone. If I knew he was broken up about it I would try my best to console him. Because I know how it feels to loose a favorite artist.

Yeah well I don't want to keep going round in circles, but just to address your points: 1) yes, I would rather someone who had negative things to say about a just-deceased musician said nothing rather than something that could be construed as being in bad taste. Like I'm sure yer mam told ya: if you can't say something nice, say nothing.
2) I think it's generally accepted that if someone opens an RIP thread there was some interest there, and usually it can be expected that they had some regard for the person. I wouldn't, for instance, have expected anyone to open an RIP Jimmy Saville thread.

Anyway, just let it lie now, as we've both had our say and there's no point arguing in, as it were, the man's resting place.

I would say you had more say than I did. There is a lot of things what I wanted to say but didn't. And I'll refrain from doing so. OK at the time I didn't get emotional over his passing, but for the sake of his fans I bid him to rest in peace. I've said it in earnest, and meant it. I would rather you not reinterpret what I said.

Bruce has been known to do that anytime an artist he admires or was influenced by passes. He has always done a bunch of covers during his marathon shows, but he does key in on recent departures for inspiration..I was in the crowd on more than one night where he has pulled out a tribute, like the version of "Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go" he did right after Hank Ballard passed..
