Favorite Concert Videos: YouTube Edition
The x-GF recently got Chromecast and we've been watching a lot of live concert video's on Youtube, 'casting' them to the big screen TV which has a good surround system. I'm looking for suggestions as to what to watch since I'm running out of idea's for her (she's not too tech savvy and stuff). Doesn't matter what genre, as long as it's good quality footage and audio, so no phone cam vids and things of that nature. She's got an open mind, but I don't think she'd like Burzum for example. I'm taking her to Iron Maiden for her birthday though, so that might help. Any suggestions would be great.
Here's a few for starters: |

Then there's this. I'm assuming your and her tastes coincide? If not, just watch it yourself to see a master of the blues at work, and let me know what kinda stuff she's into.

I wanted only to just post Eric Johnson, but I kept adding videos. I thought I would stop at five. These are YT videos I could play over and over. The list contains NDW, Japanese (Pysch/Space Rock/Prog etc), Instrumental Rock, post-Punk, & Synthpop. So this is pretty much my top five live concert videos in no particular order.
Palais Schaumburg - Telephon (1981) eX-Girl: "Hettakorii No Ottokotou" If the eX-Girl video sounds distorted it's because I played it too much. j/k :/ Eric Johnson - Cliffs of Dover (ACL) Wire - 15th (Rockpalast 02/18 ) Tubeway Army - Are "Friends" Electric? I only remember Urban using plug.dj once, he played this song it blew my socks off. Thank you Urban, wherever you are. |
One of the best ones that happens to be on YouTube.
I'm so jealous of that goddamn only 20ish person audience. That performance would light a coliseum filled with fans on fire. Your ex and maybe you might not dig this, but this is a great video imo. You can see how much they love the music. |
You might not be into this but you should give it a go...

Before the drugs really took a hold of front/mainman Mark Hollis, here is is the mighty Talk Talk.

Back in the 70s they'd play this at the drive in and the local FM station would sync up the soundtrack. Was such a trip walking around outside and hearing it blaring from like 50 car stereos. |
Do yourself a favor, watch this. |
No one should be surprised. |

This was an extremely awesome thing to watch when I first found it.
Also I spent a few weeks watching this reunion tour video of Jack off Jill purely on the power of Jessika's performance even tho it was some phone recording at the show. |
Emerson, Lake & Palmer- Knife Edge - Live in Switzerland, 1970
KING CRIMSON - Starless - Live 1974 |
The Band's fairwell The Last Waltz concert. Watched it on DVD a dozen times. Hope to see it another dozen.
Van Morrison - Caravan (The Last Waltz) The Band & The Staples Sisters - The Weight (The Last Waltz) The Band & Eric Clapton - Further On Up The Road (The Last Waltz) |
Brian Wilson - Pet Sounds Live in London (2002)
Brian Wilson - SMiLE Live |

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Live @ Ridgelea Theater, Fort Worth, TX (3/14/03)

This was professionally shot, but the uploading is only in 360p. A person uploaded each song individually in HD, but I haven't checked those out to see if they actually look much better.

One of my fave boots. Very early from the 75 US tour. Plant was sick and his voice wasn't the best. This show was at MSG during a blizzard and you can almost smell the pot smoke in the air when listening to the whole thing. Send me a PM if you'd like the entire show.

It wouldn't be a favourite if it weren't the only live footage of This Heat that I could find, since it was recorded with a moldy piece of banana bread.
And the sexy drum solos on youtube...goddamn Gotta have Han in a post about solo percussion performances And one of my all time favourites The rest of this performance was reviewed in depth in my journal in what was meant to be a long series that ended very abruptly after the first segment was completed. |

This one's also great. It was a fitting tribute to the leader/creator of the band, who had recently passed away at the time. It might be too close in style to Burzum for the OP's x-GF's taste, although they're clearly more consonant, at least for black metal. Oh, and the bodybuilder guy doing the vocals on some of the songs is the deceased musician's brother.

He doesn't drink or do drugs and his musical style admittedly allows for more sloppiness, but I saw an opportunity to mock Page and I took it. That's what makes me a hero.

The dude loved his Jack Daniels. That **** will **** you up. http://31.media.tumblr.com/FyFUKb2p2...iXrZo1_500.jpg |
You'd think he could afford a non-shitty whiskey.
But that's rock'n'roll lifestyle for you. |
I've never had whiskey that wasn't ****ty tbh (scotch notwithstanding though). I had whiskey the first and second to last time that alcohol made me sick and ever since, it's had a huge gross factor for me.
At least it wasn't Jim Beam. |
