Ones own taste in music does not equate to elitism or snobbishness. It's the attitude one takes in portraying their own music taste compared to others around them.

For example: I only listen to real music like rock and metal anything else is trash. (Not an actual portrayal of my musical taste)

It's the way one compares their own taste to others' that creates the elitism.

But what happens when you constantly run in stuff you don't like? There is very little in Metal that seems appealing. Am I suppose to pretend I like Metal or should I censor my opinion on Metal? A Metal fan would encourage me to listen to whatever band. But to me that is like wasting time on Metal when I can listen to other kinds of music I like. I don't think that is "elitism" that is being frugal with time spent listening to music.

i don't like those COuntry or pop artist on youtube that just make these songs only acoustic guitar and them singing im like its so Basic and boring and been done a zillion time like had some different things to your song

If you don't like metal then move on and don't waste your time with it. You are right it's not elitism it's having taste. Once again if you go around preaching about how bad metal is or how your taste is significantly better than mine based on the fact that you don't listen to metal then I would see you as elitist. You obviously don't do that.

You don't like any metal? it's not my favorite genre but i do like a couple of metal bands. i periodically go through a short metal phase because there's an intensity in the music other genres don't have and like that intensity.. for a little while at least.

Don't you like stuff like Orange Goblin though?

Don't like metal? Which metal? What is metal? Which bands have you invested some time trying to get into?

70's metal? 80s NWOBHM metal? Industrial metal? Black metal? Christian Folk Metal? :p:

Oragne Goblin is more or less considered Stoner Rock. Well someone who was in Stoner Rock band (I forget who) said it was an insult to be called Heavy Metal. Not even Sam Dunn has a place for "Stoner Rock" on his chart, however he did bother to include Punk and Grunge. The thing with Heavy Metal fans (probably starting with Sam Dunn) is that everything is re-evaluate towards it's relationship to Heavy Metal. (There are a few examples I won't go into) anyways there are things that weren't considered Metal now are. Oragne Goblin on a whole different level than Kiss, Glam Metal, or Metallica. I don't see them as spandex Heavy Metal.

I know some people who wouldn't consider anything before NWOBHM as Metal. Sam Dunn (in his Rockumentary) is careful to call Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and Deep Purple Heavy Music, not Heavy Metal. Anyway Stoner Rock draws more from late 60s and early 70s Acid Rock and Hard Rock bands. So a band playing Stoner-Rock-type music before NWOBHM is not Metal but a Stoner band after NWOBHM Is Metal?

Rock, Pop, Metal, Punk, Electronic, Grunge, Prog, Folk, Experimental, Avant-Garde, Jazz, Blues, Classical... I think I'm pretty much set.
