Review The Batlord's Recs
Plenty of threads these days about suggesting music for people, but how about rec'ing albums for everyone else? Basically, I'll provide a list of albums for people to review, and they will do so in this thread, not me.
I'll put forth albums in multiple genres and sub-genres for others to review, and then they can do so if they feel like it. There will be no "first come first serve", you can pick whatever albums you feel like, even if other people have already "called" an album or reviewed it. If you feel like suggesting an album for me to add to the list, then feel free, but ultimately, this is a thread for me to revel in other's reviews of albums I want to hear their opinions of, so I reserve the right to not give a **** about anything anyone recs. This is entirely down to my own amusement. But I'm drunk, so anything goes, cause I'm drunk. Very drunk. Very, very drunk. This thread might die a timely death, but I'm drunk and bored, so... Metal Metalcore/Hardcore Converge - Jane Doe Unbroken - Life. Love. Regret Poison the Well - The Opposite of December Snapcase - Progression through Unlearning Arkangel - Dead Man Walking Nostromo - Ecce Lex Thrash Exodus - Tempo of the Damned Exhorder - The Law Anacrusis - Suffering Hour Demolition Hammer - Epidemic of Violence Metallica - Kill 'Em All Death Metal At the Gates - Slaughter of the Soul Bolt Thrower - War Master Cynic - Focus Morbid Angel - Formulas Fatal to the Flesh The Rotted - Get Dead or Die Trying Black Metal Bathory - Bathory Sarcofago - INRI Mayhem - Deathcrush NME - Louder than Hell Blut Aus Nord - The Work Which Transforms God Doom/Stoner/Sludge The Sword - Age of Winter [stoner] Monster Magnet - Dopes to Infinity [stoner] Eyehategod - Take as Needed for Pain [sludge] Baroness - Purple (their new album!) [sludge] Unholy - The Second Ring of Power [death-doom] Black Sabbath - Dehumanizer [doom... I guess?] The Black Angels - Passover (from the end credits of the first episode of True Detective) [stoner] Tristan Geoff's Review Random Metal Bathory - Hammerheart Motley Crue - Too Fast for Love Virgin Steele - The Marriage of Heaven and Hell Part I Prong - Cleansing Boris - Pink Not Metal Suicide - Suicide The Contortions - Buy Gang of Four - Entertainment! The Sonics - Here Are the Sonics Pere Ubu - The Modern Dance |
So basically we choose one/more from your list and promise to review it? Hmm. I have done a lot in your list already, and there are many there I know I'd hate. Is the point to get people into this music or just for you to sit back and laugh as their heads explode?
I'll have a shot at Motley Crue if you like. |
I'm drunk. There is no point.
http://i58.photobucket.com/albums/g2...ps5c59ea9b.gif But please, review Motley Crue. It took me five minutes to write this sentence after all. |
Nice idea, I'll get on a few of these soon. Can't remember if I've heard Pink, or Smile by Boris... possibly both but I'll relisten to make sure.
|
Dude just reminded me of that band from the end credits of the first episode of True Detective...
The Black Angels - Passover Some quality stoner rock. Check it out or be it a bitch... on the list. |

Sorry for the delay, but I haven't had a whole lot of free time recently, I did listen to a few minutes of Passover, and enjoyed it. Will write a review hopefully soon for Pink, Passover, Jane Doe, and Poison the Well soon. Might get to the other ones in due time. Love the thread concept though, don't want it to die as soon as it started.

Never could get into Blut Aus Nord but I guess I can give that album a shot and review it.

@DWV: Have you even bothered to listen to these albums before rating them as zero? :yikes: :nono:
Here are my basic ratings: (n/a for any I haven't heard) Quote:

You do realize you just gave away your opinions on many of the albums I rec'd you in Love/Hate, don't you?
|
Just two. And you don't actually know what I feel about them, yet, on an individual, track-by-track basis, just whether I dug them or not. Still, couldn't let DWV's terrible slur on metal in general go unanswered.

I sit on a throne of crushed beer cans, like any True Metalhead. The naked chicks sit on top of the cans.

That's more like it. I might add Age of Winters then.

Artist: Black Angels
Album: Passover (2006) Category: Doom/Stoner/Sludge The thing with stoner rock, along with a few other genres I like, is no matter how formulaic it is, it always manages to impress me. This album was certainly no exception. It wasn't necessarily stoner metal (as the majority of these bands are interchangeable) but that didn't stop me from appreciating it. Like Batlord said, it's more like if stoner rock was invented in the 60's, and this definitely shows through the Jim Morrison-esque hazy atmosphere, the bluesy guitars, and their Velvet Underground worship (their very name is a reference to "The Black Angel's Death Song"). I'd like to complain about the lack of variety, or the length. But I just can't being myself to do it. It's just a solid record altogether. I can't really find any major flaws in this, but it still isn't my favorite album. Thus, I give it a 9/10. |
I have only heard one song by them and that is Don't Play with Guns off of their 2013 LP Indigo Meadow. It sounded more Psychedelic than Stoner/Sludge. I'll have to listen to the rest of their stuff for sure though.

Concubine *** Fault And Fracture ** Distance And Meaning ** Hell To Pay ** Homewrecker *** The Broken Vow *** Bitter And Then Some *** Heaven In Her Arms ** Phoenix In Flight ** Phoenix In Flames *** Album Avg 3.5/5 NOW U REVIEW Ughhhhh a black Dahlia murder album or something |
That's not what this thread is about, and I don't wanna review a Black Dahlia Murder album cause Black Dahlia Murder suck.
|
I think they're pretty tight. They've shown progression on each album, as well as increasing heaviness.
Honestly this rules, heaviest to date |
They're kinda nice live (mostly cause their vocalist has a lot of energy for a fatty), but on record they're dull and their vocalist blows.

Make it about it :pimp: |
Seriously though, early-BMtH > any Black Dahlia Murder.

Norg, wtf kind of crappy review was that? Put a bit of effort into it. A monkey could have reviewed better. Although, no monkeys were available... |
