While I feel like this list is much more intentionally obscure than previous MB collabs I must say I never would have heard that stabbed in back album otherwise and it is GOOD, very surprised to see it on here though.

Thing about extreme metal is that the music is too goodnight to give up for the vocals

Back to business.

7. =

Album: Hyperview
Artist: Title Fight
Release Date: February 3rd 2015
Genre: Shoegaze, Indie Rock
Place in Artist's Discography: 3rd LP
Highest Individual List Ranking: 2nd - Tristan Geoff

Overall Points - 22

What they've created is a subtle, often understated shoegazy effort that I horribly misjudged at first. It's miserable and dreary but in a good way not as I had firstly thought it, uninspired. The vocals creep out from underneath the solemn plucking of guitars and clash of symbols and the end result sounds similar to a softer A Place To Bury Strangers.

To be fair to myself I think it's easy to dismiss this album at first glance, but to the trained ear and repeated listens there's many little nuances and intricacies that are to be uncovered under the perceivable uninviting surface

There's a very deliberate plodding atmosphere taking place here that fans of 90's shoegaze will see homage being paid to.
Title Fight have harnessed the energy of that era whilst making the most of better production available to them in the present day. kudos to them, solid record.

Album: We Cool?
Artist: Jeff Rosenstock
Release Date: March 3rd 2015
Genre: Pop Punk, Ska-Punk
Place in Artist's Discography: 2nd LP
Highest Individual List Ranking: 2nd - Mankycaaant

Overall Points - 22

2. You, in weird cities: Faster from the off, quite infectious really. Good fun.
3. Novelty sweater: Sort of a blues, old-style hard rock anthem in this one. Poor ending.
4. Nausea: Like the bright piano, very Billy Joelesque. That melody in the chorus is robbed from something. Good though. Oh, sax and trumpets. Nice.
5. Beers again alone: Harmonica gives this a real hard-drinkin' Country flavour. Love it. Kind of like Steve Earle meets The Pogues.
6. I'm serious, I'm sorry: Acoustic Springsteen turns into a heavy rocker and back again. Like this one.
7. Hey Allison!: Sure is a lot of energy in this.
8. Polar bear of Africa: Sounds a bit like The Jam to be honest. Great hook.
9. Hall of fame: Somehow that didn't do anything for me.
10. All blissed out: Great slow accordion intro with a ragged vocal. Getting back on track, perhaps. Yeah, this is excellent. Love the way it ramps up near the end.
11. The lows: Another powerful track with a lot of crushing energy
12. Darkness records: Folky/Country acoustic with some great bass. Punches up nicely. Using a classical theme here? Great closer.

End result: Very enjoyable album, very little if anything to complain about. Not what I expected (from the title I had thought this was a hip-hop album!) and went down very well in the end.

So, Love or Hate? We cool, man, we cool. It's another Love.

Beginning with the best 'rko outta nowhere' intro track since Brand New's 'Sowing Season', Rosenstock immediately stamps his brand of highly infectious ska influenced pop punk over this album. And it doesn't let up at all through the albums duration.

Insatiably packed with energy at every corner, Rosenstock takes us on a whirlwind tour showcasing how not to live your life.
From how one should handle the bereaved in 'I'm Serious, I'm Sorry' to the complications of attempting to move beyond the friend zone in 'Hey Alison'. It seems Rosenstock has been wrought with an inability to say the right thing, which is ironic because he doesn't put a foot out of line in We Cool?

As the album title may suggest, Jeff is extending a peace offering to make up for his wrongdoings, maybe the album serves as a way of apologizing for the demise of his band 'Bomb the Music Industry'.
But it could be for the best, as Rosenstock seems to be having a hell of a lot of fun and that's reflected in the spirited display we're treated to in We Cool?
With tongue twisting lyrics and euphoric shouty pop punk songs that are sure to be echoed back by approving fans, We Cool is above all else a thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable listen. Simply, We Cool earns it's place on this list because of that.

So, we've made it onto the Top 5. Who do we expect to see up there, are there any surprises left in store? What will be the Music Banter Album of the Year?
Stay tuned.

Happy to see Title Fight in the top 10. Their actually in my top 10 artists as well. As much as I love their skate punk days and their recent post-hardcore ventures, this record blew me away just as much as their other releases. Still not Shed or Floral Green, but a really good release anyways.

I remember my friend complaining how they changed sounds, but if you listen to their last two it was easy to see this coming. They've always had a subtle shoegaze influence, but here they opened the floodgates. And besides, they'll probably reinvent themselves again with the next record. Pretty excited for that.

I'll check that dictionary, but in the meantime I'm impressed - as is everyone else in the world - by your eloquence, obvious accomplishments and success, and the evidence of your blazingly high intelligence.
