GaGa is famous because she had one album of simple-but-brilliant pop songs about being a party girl. Pretty much everything else was an obnoxious hype machine of Facebook trends and meat dresses. She's pretty much been riding on the coat tails of The Fame ever since, and the diminishing returns ever since is a testament to how little people care about her "social" stances.

Ke$ha on the other hand, though her star has fallen due to the whole thing about "Die Young" being released around the same time as a school shooting, has actually released continually better albums. Cannibal (though an EP) was better than Animal, and Warrior is simply one of the best pop albums of the decade. Sure they all conform to the Ke$ha template, but just listen to Warrior as a collection of pop songs rather than an expression of an artist's... whatever, and god damn is it awesome. It's ridiculous how little filler there is in comparison to just about any other mainstream pop artist.

She definitely needs to quit suing her record label and release another album, though. I understand there's a rape charge with her manager, but she's shooting her career in the foot by taking it out on her label.

In my case at work, the policy is quite lame. The only music allowed is radio friendly stuff like classic rock, censored pop, or country.
At school, basically pop was played all the time because that's what everyone liked. For those of you who had music playing in the hall anyways.
Retail stores are more or less the same with the pop.

The only time I get to listen to the music I want to listen to is in private or at concerts. Sigh*, where I can live where the music isn't so basic.

This is a non-issue for me. I listen to whatever I want on my headphones at work, on my headphones when I'm shopping, on my headphones when I go out for a walk. I think the only circumstance I regularly hear other music is when I go to the gym, which I'll grant you is pretty annoying since it's usually loud enough that I can hear it over my headphones. It also happens when I'm out at a bar or something, but then it doesn't bother me because I'm just so excited that they're actually playing music instead of blasting sporting events on TVs.

Anybody over the age of 25 who listens to headphones in public as much as you apparently do is clearly an anti-social weirdo.

Why don't you listen to your music in the gym?

I shouldn't try reading stuff while groggy from my evening nap.

Many, many decades ago, while in 6th grade, our homeroom teacher would set up a small turntable each Friday morning, and we were allowed to bring in our favorite 45 records and play them until 1st bell. So, as always happens, someone has to pee in the punch bowl, and ruin it for all. One kid brought in Benny Bell's "Shaving Cream", which was popular on the Dr Demento show at the time. (If you've not heard the song, it's available on Youtube). As the song started, the teacher noted the old-timey style and appeared surprised but as it got to the chorus, with it's exaggerated "SHHHH.....aving cream", she jumped out of the chair and knocked the tonearm off the record, sternly telling us that was nasty and unacceptable. And that was the last day we got to play records...and I think of that each time I hear or read about how awful rap music is, and how the standards have changed so much over time....whether that's a fair comparison or not, I don't know....but what I do know is that if you were driving and pulled up next to someone cranking "Shaving Cream", you couldn't possibly be offended today, could you?

When I was in elementary school we had an assembly with some guy who sang funny kids' songs and that was one of the songs he sang. No one was offended.

I'm with Jans here, unless I'm by myself at home I always have my headphones on listening to whatever the hell I so please. I could be listening to Justin Beiber or I could be listening to Merzbow and no one would be any the wiser.
