I'll add it in just a sec. Yes, I really loved the big instrumentals they do. It makes the whole experience. You really like dream pop huh? When I think dream pop I think The Cranberries personally but, this sure is expanding my idea of it.
Yes dream pop is among my favorite genres and it is heavily influential on my own work. I've got a ton of it so if you really like it (and it seems like you do!) I can give you a huge spectrum of takes on the genre. I started you off with what I believe to be the greatest band to ever do it (Cocteau Twins) and then moved you in a much bigger sounding direction and now Lanterns on the Lake is a very soft, slower take.

Great reviews so far, and thanks for giving Gone To Earth a chance too.

I've got a few other recommendations, but seeing as your looking a bit bogged down I'll think on it a bit more before throwing one out there.

I have to tell you though if they lyrics are hard to understand I'd rather hear something that's more clear UNLESS you think that I really need to give an album a shot. Honestly this whole experience has opened my eyes to a lot of things. I like to write and do this has given me so many new ideas!

I look forward to it and I'm glad you're enjoying my reviews! It's really been a strange experience that I never knew would happen. I only came here by chance looking for new music. And now I've got more new music than I know what to do with lol.

The woman sings like an angel. You'll be able to understand her alright. You might not keep your feet on the ground, though!

The Dead Milkmen - The King in Yellow

Let me first admit, it has been a long, long time since I've listen to
this band so my views might have changed on them.

1. The King in Yellow - William Bloat.

It almost sounds like folk punk here. I don't even know if that's a real
thing but, I like it. William, you've had a hard life haven't you? I've
always thought that punk music is about the message and when the lyrics
have more meaning behind them, it's more enjoyable. There's obviously a
story being told here. At first I didn't like the way the vocals were
but, that's just kind of the punk rock charm isn't it?
3.5 stars

2. Fauxhemia

Punk is all about not giving a **** what people think about you or your
opinions and this song really is just that. He doesn't get Norah Jones.
He doesn't want to either. He doesn't care. The chorus, makes the song.
And the little parts that just make it sound trashy? You know like, not
stylized.
4 stars.

3. She's Affected

It's talking about a woman that isn't perfect right? It almost sounds
like she's being made fun of but, I see it as just the opposite. Like
how we pick apart people for how they look or what they know. Then again
I have no idea who this song is about it's kind of up in the air so it
could just be about someone this band dislikes. It could be a little
more clear.
3.5 stars

4. Caitlin Childs

Is this song about someone who would be seen as a terrorist? It's really
a statement piece. Something like judging a book by it's cover for stupid
reasons. I'm not really versed in politics or news mostly because, it's
all just depressing. So if I'm supposed to know this story I apologize.
I love the song though.
5 stars

5. Meaningly Upbeat Happy Song

This is something that I'm used to. Very message heavy lyrics. Don't
trust the happy the happy are insane. All too true. Christ that ended
so fast I couldn't even write about it. Very garage show type of song.
Has to be my favorite so far.
5 stars

6. Hangman

Really love how this one is kinda trippy. Almost like a 70's feel here.
There's a message here but, I'm not exactly gathering it. Something
about the death sentence? I know it's not just a silly song about the
game. There has to be more than that. Love the spooky sounding bits.
5 stars

7. Cold Hard Ground

I've searched all around for songs about murder and such and this really
fulfills that want for something similar to say Maxwell's Silver Hammer.
What else can I say other than I'm really enjoying the story?
5 stars

8. Some Young Guy

Shot glass paper bag bottle of wine
Tube of glue skull of some young guy
Shot glass paper bag bottle of wine
Duct tape skull of some young guy < Like this part the best.

This one is a little odd and I find myself laughing at how insane it is.
Maybe that's just my satirical sense of humor. Another story that I did
enjoy but, I liked the way Cold Hard Ground was crafted more. And it
ended before I got to know what happened!
4 stars

9. Or Maybe It Is.

Here's the thing I tried to read Twilight a friend said it was amazing.
I like to read I'd say I'm a medium level reader. That book is just
horrible. That aside. This song is kinda just saying random things that
are wrong with society but, not in any uniform way.
2.5 stars

10. Passport to Depravity

This guy is pretty violent. Poor fisherman. Depravity, discord, all that
Jazz. I get it, the songs all about it. It's good. I'm not really sure
what to say about this track it's pretty straight forward. A little dark
humor perhaps. He's just running around corrupting people. Women, men,
fishermen. I like it. I support it.
4 stars

11. Quality of Death

Little bit of Ska? I always like a little Ska though, maybe it's not.
I think that it's a little pessimistic this song. Unless it's saying
that there are silver lining but, sometimes they're fake rather than
saying everything is bad and we're all going to die because, the world
is a horrible place. I'll go with sometimes there's bad it's not all good.
3 stars

12. Buried In The Sky

This is a very defined point of view. It's only an opinion though. I
respect all opinions of course but, really again it's a little
pessimistic. Music is a great form to state your own views though and I
do like how it's a big unapologetic middle finger.
3 stars

13. 13th Century Boy

I get it. Religion can be a horrible thing, organized religion at that.
And the world isn't as amazing as people think it might be. It's trying
to open people's eyes to reality but, it's a little aggressive.
3 stars

14. Commodify Your Dissent
Another really political type of punk song talking about conformity and
people being clones. It's good. I like it enough. Anything that has to
deal with questioning authority, society, government, industry. That's
always really nice to hear.
3.5 stars

15. Can't Relax

Love the trumpet here. This is another one of those songs I'm not quite
sure what it's about but, maybe I would if I sat down and read it over a
few times. It's a good song though. The middle break, really cool.
4 stars

16. Melora Says

Dark. I'm not sure who Melora is. Guessing it might be someone in the
media. The pipe is an interesting little add on here. I want more though
from this song.
3 stars.

17. Solvents

A corrupt beauty queen maybe? She speaks like solvents. She breaks things down hmmmm. I'm not really certain. It's enjoyable. This one seems to have a lot of metaphors. Or...maybe it's literal. Woah that last part. Maybe,
she just sold solvents? Is this about a woman who's life just kind of
became a mess? Interesting to say the least.
4 stars.

Over all there were some songs I really likes and some I didn't. But, I
have to say all in all I respect anyone who has the balls to be like
this is how I view things like it or not. That's real punk. A lot of
people don't understand how it's more than a genre.

Anyway, 3.5 stars for this one. I had a good time listening to it. Thank
you for the rec!

I'm just curious: is there any significance to the different colours in your ratings, as sometimes you have, say 3.5 stars in purple, sometimes in orange? Not important, but I just wondered.

Well Lanterns on the Lake has the most easily-understood lyrics of the bunch so far so it might just be your favorite!

Your reviews have been excellent, I guarantee this thread will remain extremely popular as long as you are able to put forth the effort required for consistent reviews. It's really awesome to read and gives members things to look forward to within a short time-frame, this style of thread is my favorite on this whole forum.

I like the scores to pop out so you know they're not part of the whole thing. The color choice I do think about what I was listening to I wanted to use yellow rather than orange but, you wouldn't be able to read it on the light blue background. Since it's The King in Yellow. And honestly some are purple because, I just like purple. Or maybe that's the color it makes me think of. Nothing to special behind it.

Fair rating. i agree with your review for the most part but i would've given 'Passport to Depravity' a 5 cause i think that song has the best music arrangement in that album. What i like about that album is that it's simple and fun and has a good sense of humour. I guess you could say that about every album by them but i think that one is one of their most consistent one.
