Unbroken - Life. Love. Regret.
First of all since this is a metal record, more than likely I won't be able to say much for each track it's a little more difficult to feel the genre out IMO. That being said, who knows? 1. D4 I like the beat. It's a good song. This part with the twang-y guitar is nice. And the speaking type of lyrics. I swear I heard Run With Eggs. Run With Eggs. Jokes aside, misheard lyrics and all. What does D4 mean? Against myself? It's just me against myself. I know how that feels sometimes we're our own worst enemies. 3 stars 2. End of a Life Time I don't want to be alone but, I cannot move? Ok, I need to look up these lyrics. Well, maybe I don't they're pretty clear here. While most people would think wow this song is angry, I find it rather sad. Not so old but i don't forget. I'm afraid to die but, I'm not dead yet. < Powerful stuff right here. 4.5 stars 3. In The Name of Progression I'm glad I looked up the lyrics to these songs because, without them I would honestly find the album kind of meh. This is saying something about how the more we progress the more the rich stay rich and the poor stay poor right? Something of that sort. Maybe more so talking about how we're killing the Earth. Either way it's again a powerful song. 4 stars 4. Razor I like the opening more than others. And the lyrics are really something I can relate to. I was really different in high school. That's a long story Though, sometimes I feel that going as far as say Anarchy isn't the right direction. And it bothers me a little "give me a razor" though I don't know the whole story here. It sounds like he's saying I'd rather die than conform. Something like SLC Punk ya know? Well, not exactly. But, anyway. It could also be about someone who's an outcast and ended their life when they weren't accepted in society. But, since it seems to me more like the not wanting to conform, I like it less. 3 stars 5. Final Expression I can't seem to connect myself to these lyrics. Is it bad to say they feel a little angsty? I think it might be a break up song. Again I could be horribly wrong. And fully support being open minded and not being a clone. Sometimes stuff like this works when it's just basically singing a paragraph that doesn't rhyme or anything but, I'm not feeling it with this one. 3 stars 6. Blanket Here I like how the lyrics are broken up. It works. Ok this is obviously about questioning religion. As someone who grew up with someone who tried to shove a bible down his throat this hits home a little. I'm not against religion in any way but, I am for questioning organized religion. Bigotry. Someone I came out of all of that as an agnostic though. Anyway, it's a good track. 4 stars 7. Recluse Is English not this band's first language? I ask because, of the way the craft lyrics not any other reason. There's an internal battle going on here. It's about depression obviously. I'm not sure why this is named Recluse but, where I live there's a spider called the recluse. It would be fitting. Like being bit and slowly dying from the poison. The poison being depression. Fear. All of that. 3.5 stars 8. The Setup Now, bare with me. as I did decide to review the lyrical side of this album I just feel like the lyrics are really important. For me, this song reminds me of a lot of things. My own inner demons. Being diagnosed with Bi Polar among other things. "For today try to escape this disease we can't flee". It's a hard thing to do. Mental disorders suck. And if this song isn't about a disorder well, that's what I personally get out of it. 3.5 stars 9. Curtain This had to be a song about breaking up, loss of love right? Kind of out of place. Well maybe not but, still it's not as powerful as some of the really good tracks. I know we're human, hearts get broken. I guess music is a good way to move on or, is it a good way to dwell in the past? Maybe it reminds us of our past mistakes. For me, I'd rather just forget anything like that. Maybe I'm bias. The part in the middle, that's the best part. It's just rage. Love how it ended. It ended perfectly. 3.5 stars This was a good listen. I did like what the band was doing but, a lot of the song were somewhat similar. I'm not sure if it's punk or metal? Maybe it's somewhere in between. Trying to find something to say here. It's somewhere in the middle for me. It could be much more than it is but, what it is, is good. I'll give it a solid 3.5 stars over all. |

Let's go for broke and suggest what is often considered the best metalcore album ever made. Arkangel are my baby, but I definitely can't argue with everyone else. Maybe I was thinking of someone else when I was thinking of the person who said they only listen to anime/game soundtracks and "whiny acoustic emo" or whatever. If you can really like Arkangel, then I doubt you'll be totally ear-offended by Converge. Maybe we might even be able to train you to like powerviolence (like that Yacopsae album I first rec'ed you in the Torture Chamber).

Lol ahahaha no, no way in hell. Okay I didn't hate that album but, the vocals. I can't take it when I can't understand a word. Not that the fact it was German helped that at all. I have enjoyed some heavy bands though. Like The Agonist. A few others that I tend to forget. It all depends really.

Then change it to Bathory's Hammerheart. Musically, Converge might be fine for you, but their singer is indecipherable. This is one of my all-time favorite albums, metal or otherwise, and I imagine it's probably not much like anything you've ever heard. And you can understand what he's singing. And just know that the singer (it's a one-man project, actually) is Scandinavian, so the lyrics aren't just cheesy fantasy for him.
