How do you define music innovation

Hey guys,

I have always wondered about the word "innovation" in the music world. To me it always meant "new sound", but sometimes it also coincided with "alternative music", whatever that means.
So, given I don't have an answer, what is your opinion? What is music innovation and what does make songs innovative?

I don't have an answer either. But providing you enjoy a piece of music, I don't think it matters whether it's innovative or generic, cutting edge or traditional, or this or that. That's my take anyway.
