And why does Agalloch have black metal vocals? What exactly separates them from folk in general to the extent that they require black metal vocals? There. I said it.

I think its more for the atmospheric effect that the vocals can convey. They do it well enough that I never really questioned it.

So would Simon and Garfunkel be just as good with Varg on vocals?

I think I've listened to them once, and if so I don't remember what they even sounded like, so no comment.

Black metal with balls (i.e. 80s black metal) is my favorite black metal.

that's easily my least favorite form of black metal.

id also say that as much as im indifferent to a lot of "post-metal" it's still a hell of a lot better than the metalless crescendo-core post rock.

I love 80s bm too but I'm with Ninetales that the rest of the styles are superior. It's all about atmosphere.

Listen, we all know that 80s black metal rips something fierce. It's just when I want to listen to black metal, I'm way more apt to throw on something atmospheric, depressive, blackgaze, or whatever else we're calling "hipster black metal" now.

Also I realize most people hate dsbm but I've heard a few albums in the genre that I love.
