I'm with grindy - that I usually consider it a blessing to NOT understand the lyrics. As E515 and others have said, the singing then becomes like an extra, mysterious instrument. That's got to be good, right?

I also agree with Janszoon - that in general, I prefer singers to stick to their native language. As well as non-English speakers hoping for commercial success, l don't usually like it when English speakers drop in a line or two of some poorly pronounced foreign language either. Guilty of this are Beatles (Michelle) and Dylan (Romance in Durango).

Totally agree.

For example, tell me this song isn't gorgeous to listen to, both musically and vocally

But are you are really able to pick up japanese words just by being an attentive listener? Or did you study the language a little? I'm always completely lost when listening to japanese.
I used to listen to a lot of Japanese music in high school, then I studied it for 4 years at university (but by that time I stopped caring about Japanese culture, school does that to you).

Nowadays if I go back and listen to a song in Japanese, I'm like "whoa... I understand that now." =D So it's a cool experience.

Here's another singer and song that I love listening to, in part, not just because the singer and song are great, but because it's in a language I don't understand. I believe it challenges your mind to try and decipher what exactly the performer and song are trying to say and convey.
