You loose motivation exactly at the same point in time when I finally figure out what to send you. :(

Probably not a coincidence.

It´s not a coincidence that you posted in his thread and he lost interest?

Just my view: I think it's slightly disingenuous of Ki to blame others for his lack of motivation in a thread titled as this one is. I mean, I know it has humour in it but really, does a title like that give you any indication at all that the OP is interested in doing what they're doing? Also, the way he reviewed the albums he did, while again I understand he was taking a more lighthearted approach, gives you the idea he wasn't really that pushed.

I understand that a lot of you saw my thread doing well and thought "Hell yeah! I'll have some of that!" and while it's fun and everything, there's no getting away from the fact that it's hard work. If you decide to do this you need to go all-in and be prepared to stick it out; there's no point in going in half-assed at it. As Yorkie says, to keep people happy and interested and invested in your thread you really need to be doing at least --- at least --- one album per day, every day. Nobody's saying you have to do that of course, but if you want to maintain the buzz I think it's almost a requirement. If you already run a journal then doing this is probably not the greatest idea (unless you're insane like me) as it will take you away from that work, and you may end up regretting opening the thread, resenting the lack of interest in it and eventually wishing you had not bothered.

This is why I was very clear that I would not be reviewing albums, just giving a few basic lines about each to indicate whether I loved it or not. This then evolved into a very short review of each track, which works for me. Were I to try actually reviewing all these albums (120 and counting) I would have a much harder time keeping this going.

It's my old axiom: when you no longer enjoy it, stop doing it. But Ki, you should be honest and admit that you were never that much into this in the first place, or if you were, you certainly didn't display that in the way you went about it. I wouldn't give up on it totally, but if you want to of course that's your decision. However do remember that people did give you recs, and to be perfectly honest I think the least you should do is review those you got before you close the thread. But it's up to you as I say. These sort of things are not easy to do, and they're not for everyone. You're a great journal writer; maybe you should just concentrate on that...

Nice dad speech. Bootstraps and hard work and gusto and all that. Top marks.

I wasn't into it at the start, but then I got really into it. And I was enjoying it until people starting nit picking and telling me I need to hurry up when I don't have time to be on a PC as much as i'd like. I don't really see a point in letting a thread continue when the people participating are nothing but negative towards the fact that I'm apologetic about the fact that I don't have as much time to contribute. I don't really see how not being able to be at my PC all the time is my fault.

DwnWthVwls 07-07-2015 10:02 AM

When did you start getting offended by jokes? We tell you to fuck off or suck a dick, and it's no big deal but a joking hurry up and you get your panties twisted. I'm not mad, I'm disappointed.

This is kind of my point though: why start a thread when you were not into doing the thing? Maybe you got into it a little later on, but if you start with a basically negative, don't-give-a-**** attitude, how can you expect anyone else to care?

If you want to continue though I would suggest doing what I did and lay some ground rules down, specifically in your case as to how many albums a week you are going to review. Or just again take a page from my book and don't review, just comment and say if you liked the album.

Or just close it altogether. To be honest, the stick you've taken here is nothing compared to what I had to take in my thread, but it didn't make me want to close it. Anyway, it's up to you, but I'd say people might be more interested if you were, or looked like you were.

Perhaps I was too sensitive to the comments but I think it's a difference of it being a thread that i'm supposed to put time into vs a general thread in the lounge or whatever. However, it just got under my skin for whatever reason and I can't really explain why.

DwnWthVwls 07-07-2015 10:06 AM

I think you're getting confused on this because from the minute I opened the thread, people were interested. And I did express soon after I started the thread that i'd be happy to review albums.

However, as far as i'm concerned, this thread was meant as a joke / stab at all the other threads that relate to it. Am I wrong for getting interested in it even though I played it off as a joke? No, but you're not wrong in assuming that I wasn't fully into it at the start, because evidently I wasn't.

So, i'm sort of on both sides of this because I know exactly where you're coming from.

Well I just don't get this at all. If it was a joke, why take recs? And why get upset about people slagging you off? All you had to say was, "Dudes! It was a joke thread and you all fell for it!" I don't think anyone took it as a joke thread; I certainly didn't.

You don't get satire, do you? What would be the point of a satirical thread you didn't take seriously for at least five minutes?

Mods, feel free to close this thread as the thread linked above this sentence is my new thread for this idea.

Thanks.

Course I get satire. It's delivered to my door every Wednesday by a guy called Jack. Nice guy. I tip well. But the point is, if this was a satirical thread, why did Ki make it seem like it was legit by actually reviewing albums? Did he change his mind and decide to make a go of it? And either way, whether it was serious or a joke, he really has no call to be getting his knickers in a twist about people slagging him off and upsetting him now that it seems to have ground to a halt.

Like, it's either a joke (in which case take the criticisms) or it isn't (in which case do wtf the thread title implies) --- it can't be both. Joke played out too long?
