question about Free Music Archive
Hello guys, this is the first time i post thread on this forum. Here is the thing, I am writing an article about Free Legal Music Download Sites, and i have a question about the "Free Music Archive" which lets users download tracks free: Why would artists be willing to upload their music work to this site for free download? What do they get in return? Thanks in advance.

Assuming you're not affiliated with that site, I'll give you my take on things:
1. Exposure A lot of people believe in the pipe-dream that some big rec exec will come along, hear their music, and whisk them away for a recording contract. So, they get their music out where ever they can. Saturate the market (lol), so to speak. 2. Inexperience Some people just don't know where to go with their music, so they drop it in the first place they see, which may or may not be the site you mentioned, as well as other sites like Soundcloud, etc.. 3. Honesty/Humility Some people see the industry as a negative impact on themselves and the world around them, so they share their music freely. Also, along with this are the people that have no delusions on their abilities, and realize that no one in their right mind would ever pay for something they've novicely created. Some basic, off-the-top-of-my-head ideas for you there.

Music isn't a "job" for every musician.
Some just enjoy playing, recording and putting it out there. If people stumble across your stuff, they might come to your concert. Or actually buy some of your CDs.
