Alright, let's get this show on the road.

Album: OM Electrique (Merzbox Disc 1)
Artist: Merzbow
Genre: Noise
Suggested by: grindy
Familiarity: Heard the name before, I think (none).

1. OM Electrique Part 1 - OH MY GOD MY EARS!!! After turning down the volume, it's sort of silly. I think grindy is here just to torture me. Anyways, forgive me if I skip ahead a bit. There's just this low rumbling for ten minutes, with some abstract drumming in the background. Then suddenly, it turns into a high-pitched squeal. It gets a bit more hectic, and then the drumming disappears. Back to just low rumbling. It continues for the remainder of the song. Wait, did I point out this lasts for 30 minutes?
Rating: 0/10 This song is definitely talentless, and pretty poorly produced. I feel like my head is going to explode. Hopefully it gets better.

2. OM Electrique Part 2 - Nope, it's the exact same crap. I don't know why he even split it into two parts. Just put them one after the other. No one will know the difference.
Rating: 0/10 See above.

3. Untitled Taped Drum Solo - The high pitch is back, except this time it sounds like deliberately created feedback. Yup, it's a guitar just constantly playing one or two notes, and attempting to get the most feedback possible. Halfway through this yipping or whatever begins. And look! After three minutes, we have drumming! I can get into this a little bit more than the other stuff, because at least it feels a little better produced. But I find it funny to think about this guy screwing around on his drums. Towards the end, it forms the semblance of a song, and hey! It looks like this guy might actually have some promise! The solo gets a lot more intricate, and the audio sporadically cuts out, creating a cool, if disjointed, atmosphere.
Rating: 2/10 Most of the song is atrocious, but the end has some promise. Doesn't quite make up for the beginning though.

4. Untitled Guitar Solo - Starts with a guitar playing under an incredible amount of effects. Sounds like somebody whistling. After a while, the whistle stops, and the guitar has a drum-like effect. There's a bit of random screwing around, and then a drum roll at the end. You can hear shuffling in between. It's badly produced, and there's basically no talent.
Rating: 1/10 It's not as ear-bleedingly annoying as the first couple of tracks. But it is still one of the worst things I've ever heard.

OVERALL RATING: .5/10 This album is just so close to being completely worthless. It's only for the most diehard of fans. Actually, never mind that. I really hope the next part of the box, his first studio album, is better. Nothingness would get a higher score than this. Nothing would probably get a 3/10. This album is just annoying. I could not handle listening to the whole thing. I had to skip through the songs. It's horrible. Never listen to it.

Next!
Spoiler for the album cover.:

Album: Creepoid
Artist: Creepoid
Genre: Psychedelic Metal/Alternative
Suggested by: Exo_
Familiarity: None

NOTE: I accidentally deleted my work when I got to #5. Just had to make the rest again. It's a bit less detailed.

1. Nadua - Awesome! Great start. Really atmospheric.
Rating: 7/10
2. Sunday - The heavy sustain, and loud instruments compared to vocals don't really work well together I think.
Rating: 5/10
3. Yellow Wallpaper - Had the same problem in the beginning, but the ending was pretty solid, so it raised the score.
Rating: 6/10
4. Baptism - This one's more metal than the other ones, but it's also mixed a little better than the others. It feels very psychedelic, almost like the Pumpkins. Cool beans.
Rating: 7/10
5. Gout - This one starts out weird. It's really freaky, but still very noisy. A bit of punk influences thrown in with this one. The mixing appears to be fixed from Baptism on. Awesome. The instruments still feel too heavy compared to the vocals. I imagine this album was self-produced. The vocals are getting a bit more harsh, which I think is good. The constant noise is detracting from this album's worth for me. Even a small section of quiet would have been nice to balance out. Pretty good experimental ending. Alright, good as some, not as bad as others.
Rating: 7/10
6. Stay Inside: They quieted down! And as I suspected, things are working out a bit better. The psychedelia is extra evident on this one. The rhythm is nice and mellow, and the atmosphere is finally at good carrying away capacity. The only issue now is that the song isn't catchy at all. Whatever. Pry just a...
Rating: 7/10
7. Tired Eyes - Expecting something mellow again. Yup. The guitar work is awesome. Got some mellow vocals. Got some brass. Got some harmony. Hmm, that was short... Wait, there's something happening. New riff, pretty cool. Vocals and the brass come back in. It picks up, and suddenly, it's mind-bendingly heavy. Holy moses, it's big. It's like, this is frickin' happening now. This went from happy and soft, to loud and angry in just a few minutes. And the truly amazing part is that it was done pretty well. Bravo.
Rating: 9/10
8. Golden String - Now back to Radiohead land. It's mildly heavy this time, but extremely mellow. Goes through the melody once, and then gets heavier all of a sudden. Overall, not really catchy and pretty forgettable. It's mixed well, but all the songs are starting to blend together in my head. Meh.
Rating: 5/10
9. Acrimony - A headbanger, this one. Good start, I'm into it. Then, suddenly we're all quiet and collected. Cool! Pseudo-Thom Yorke comes back again, and we're in 6 8. It's not catchy, but there's something attractive about the mellow melody. Clocking in at almost seven minutes, it's by far the longest song on the album (the rest are pretty much 5 minutes or less). It continues with the mellowness for a bit, and then gets a bit heavier. A tantalizing riff finishes off the song, as the whole sound of the song is mixed together in the final stretch. Long fade out. Great!
Rating: 8/10 (One of the eight points is for effort. Can you guess which one?)
10. Vulgar - Sounds like an album closer (but it's not). It's a more psychedelic song again. May I point out now that the drum work on the whole album is fantastic? Good job on that. Anyways, this song seems pretty forgettable. Another soundscape is created with this one. There's a smaller-feeling middle section which I really like. The guitar solos are cool when intertwining. It then picks up the pace again, and reverts to the soundscape. Alright, then.
Rating: 7/10
11. Old Tree - This one sounds even more like an album closer. The mixing on this one is the best. The soundscape still exists a bit, but it isn't as evident. +1 Like, some other songs on here, there's a quiet middle section. This one is very atmospheric and cool however, and the buildup is slower than the other ones. Then, a very sudden jump in heaviness, and we're back in the action. A vocalist has been doing this cool melody in the middle of the lyrics this whole time, and a guitarist repeats it in a short solo. It's pretty simple, but cool nonetheless. There's a bit of a buildup, an increase in heaviness, and a second solo. This one's better than the last one, and it's really dragging me into this song. It's very good. An increase in tempo precedes the return of the vocalist from earlier. Shortly after, the band plays the last note, and fades out. That was definitely the best song on the album. Was it perfect? Not quite, so let's go with a...
Rating: 9.5/10

OVERALL RATING: 7/10

There were high points, and there were low points, and I think that they were pretty much in perfect balance. The musicians sounded pretty good, but the mixing threw me off on this one. I would really only recommend listening to select songs off of this album if you're not familiar with the band. Old Tree, Acrimony, and Tired Eyes were all pretty good, and represented the band's sound well also. I probably wouldn't listen to the whole thing again, as I'm not such a big fan of their sound, but I might go and check out some of their other stuff. Cool, then. See you next time.

If you dig that, then you should listen to one of Merzbow's abrasive songs.
