Alright, back with some more jazz.
Album: The Roar of '74 Artist: Buddy Rich Genre: Jazz Suggested by: ElvisMan Familiarity: None. 1. Nuttville - Just great zippy jazz all the way through. Excellent way to start off the album. Definitely fair to give this the royal treatment. 2. Kilimanjaro Cookout - Again, just the funkiest jazz you can get. I absolutely love it. 3. Big Mac - More excellent jazz, it just keeps coming. I'm surprised he can keep it up for this long. Then again, I have a soft spot for jazz. Nevertheless, it's some of the best I've heard. 4. Backwoods Sideman - I'd say this one's a bit more laid back. Still just as good though. 5. Time Check - Back to loud and noisy. I'm absolutely loving it. 6. Prelude to a Kiss - Slow and romantic, I'm really feeling this one as well. 7. Waltz of the Mushroom Hunters - Another one that goes back to the wildness of the majority of the album. It's very jazzy, while managing to evoke a sense of wonder at the same time. It's a testament to Rich's drumming that the beat is held throughout the song. As much as I like it though, it does start to feel a bit long towards the end. So I'm gonna go under on this one. 8. Senator Sam - So, we had that long, wild track before it. What else could end the album but something smooth and almost bluesy in nature. The bass work here is commendable, while the fleeting sax is extraordinary. Well, I think we can safely say that if you want me to have a good time, rec me some jazz. If you want me to have a bad time, you're pretty much out of luck. This is indeed some of the best jazz I've come across on here, so the high rating is certainly warranted. Funkier than most jazz, there will be many who enjoy this. OVERALL RATING: 9.5/10

Gonna be annoying as hell again and say this is the sequel to that other album and it's far better, uses a lot more real instrumentation than the electronic replica stuff on Reluctance. That's sort of a rough draft for this. Up to you if you wanna swap it if you don't mind but I'd advise it! Cheers

*fidgets in corner* *has seizure in corner* *dies in corner* Now, look at what you've done Plain! You've killed Technic with your release schedule. A few more albums a month and you'll end up like Buckethead! You should be ashamed of yourself! In other words, fine. dumbass.

Album: Wouldwork Artist: Infantree Genre: Indie Rock Suggested by: DwnWthVwls Familiarity: None. 1. Water - Short, slow folk song to start with. It's nothing particularly special, but it wasn't mediocre either. 2. In Line - More acoustic indie stuff. Sort of meh this time. Not feeling it right now. 3. Speak Up - I like this one quite a bit better. Jazzier and a bit funky. I particularly like the acoustic guitar on this one. The ensemble vocals are pretty good too. Best song so far. 4. Rubbed Raw - Feeling a bit like Days of the New on this one. Over too quick, honestly. 5. Hypo - Another slow yet soulful song. I really like this, but I wish it would go on a bit longer. These songs feel a bit clipped off, rather than feeling a bit too long. It's good enough for royal anyways though. 6. Mourning Glory - Another great track that's over too soon. 7. Slaughter House - Jazzier than the others, and multiple vocalists. This one is actually pretty good. There's something very clearly missing from it though. I don't know what it is. A short guitar solo? That could definitely be it. It's really good, but I don't really love it. 8. Cloud of Sound - This slow track is very nice. Smooth and comfortable, this one. The vocalist is a bit atrocious though. Lots of emotion, but at a loss of quality. I really feel like I should be enjoying this more than I am. Still, I am enjoying it a lot. Yeah, the quiet groove of it is winning me over. 9. If She Could - Oh no, what are they trying to do now? Southern? No, this is so wrong. The vocals are always just slightly out of tune, and it's really annoying. The instruments do sort of capture me though. There's a quiet section with a banjo solo which is alright. This is definitely one of those albums where the parts without vocals are better. If the vocals are bad, but there's something unique about them, then it's good. But there's really nothing special about this guy's voice. It's just uncomfortable to hear him wailing. 10. No One's Home - Another folky indie tune. It's still not clicking with me. Never much liked multiple vocalists. 11. Meet the Gang - A little march on this one. I like the first part, but the second part is great. Awesome way to turn it around. 12. To and Fro - Hearing a hint of Beatles here. Doesn't touch me like Beatles songs do, though. It's better than nothing, but just almost. Alright, so this album doesn't live up to any expectations. If you're looking for some nice indie rock, look elsewhere. Unless you're fine with annoying vocals, you may have some trouble here as well. It's not terrible, but it's nothing I would listen to all the time either. OVERALL RATING: 7/10

Album: God Bless the Red Krayola and All Who Sail With It Artist: The Red Krayola Genre: Experimental Rock Suggested by: Frownland Familiarity: None. 1. Say Hello to Jamie Jones - Very simplistic, with only bass, drums and vocals, but I enjoy it well enough. I enjoy it more and more the longer it goes on. Great start. 2. Music - Again very simple and short, but I enjoy it a lot. The ending's too abrupt though. 3. The Shirt - Now we're getting really experimental. Can't really even tell what's happening. Sounds like the song's playing on a radio as some random banging noises happen in the foreground. Alrighty then. 4. Listen to This - Way too short for a proper evaluation. I enjoy the humor of it though. 5. Save the House - Some vocal knots in the style of Gentle Giant here over a small melody. It's fine enough. 6. Victory Garden - I like the quieter guitars and bass here. Alright, fine. 7. Coconut Hotel - I'd be lying if I said the charm of these short songs isn't wearing thin. Still fine, I guess. 8. Sheriff Jack - Now this, I can get into. It's a bit awkward and disjointed, but it's not annoying. I enjoy this quite a bit. 9. Free Piece - Fast and frenetic drumming here. A bit jazzy. The bass and guitar fade in and out here and there. The drumming is really excellent. 10. Ravi Shankar: Parachutist - Some classic psych rock here. The songwriting is not very engaging at all though. Yeah, I don't think this one is any good for me. In fact, the more I hear it, the more this one wears on me. It's pretty lame. 11. Piece for Piano and Electric Bass - Ow, my ears at the start. Nothing particularly interesting about this one either. 12. Dairymaid's Lament - Doesn't sound like a lament at all. It's got a lot of energy. And the jazziness shines through on this one. Hey, they even have a sort of verse in this one. I like it quite a bit. This one sounds sort of proto-punky. Yeah, this is better. 13. Big - Hmm. Little girl talking, and a bit of organ nonsense. Alright, fine. 14. Leejol - This one almost feels like the quieter Primus songs, just without Claypool's vocals. It's fine with me. 15. Sherlock Holmes - This is one of the few songs on the album that has the classic song structure. With a guitar solo in the middle, it has a nice feel to it. Cool. 16. Dirth of Tilth - Now this feels like psych rock. But it feels like the bland, uninteresting side of psych rock. It's just too frustrating. 17. Tina's Gone to Have a Baby - I like the guitar riff here. Unfortunately, it doesn't last the whole song. Not annoying, but still pretty bland. 18. The Jewels of the Madonna - I like the punky rhythm here. Alright, maybe it's just barely punchy enough for me to like it. 19. Green of My Pants - The longest song on the album, at a grand total of 3 minutes. Sounds a bit depressing when I put it that way. Still, this song is still good. It's still got that psych thing going on, but this one has a bit better songwriting. Intriguing. 20. Night Song - Can we have something that's just quiet and mellow to end it? Yes. This is exactly what I was hoping for right now. Picks up a bit towards the end, but it's still good by me. This is probably best referred to as a repository of ideas rather than a straightforward album. The "songs" aren't really fleshed out enough to be called songs, but for what they're worth, they are definitely engaging. Lots of noisy noodling, but there are some very innovative ideas here. It's worth a look, but only if you're willing to endure some ineffective bits. As for myself, I'll definitely check out Mayo's later work, just to see what it's like. OVERALL RATING: 7/10
