I'm back!

Album: Foo Fighters
Artist: Foo Fighters
Genre: Alternative Rock

Familiarity: I've heard Big Me, but I believe that's it. I'm a big fan of some of their other work however, and I've been meaning to check this album out.

1. This Is a Call - Oh boy, I really like this. The way it incorporates elements of jangly pop is really cool. Everything about this is really cool. It's just got that classic alternative rock feel. If I was hearing this song in 1995, I would think that the drummer from Nirvana has the same talent as Kurt. Absolutely awesome stuff.

2. I'll Stick Around - It's got a nice, unpolished sound of the 90s, and I love it. Reminds me of Nirvana's heavier stuff.

3. Big Me - This is the song I know, and I absolutely love this one. It's quieter than the first two, and reinforces the jangle pop feel of the album.

4. Alone + Easy Target - A much harder, almost thrashy song here. It's not great, but it's alright.

5. Good Grief - Another heavy song. I like the harmonies with the vocals. It's good.

6. Floaty - This one has a lighter feel due to the chord structure. The vocals are excellently distorted. I really like this one.

7. Weenie Beenie - The Foo Fighters' early sound is so much heavier than their later sound. It's actually pretty strange to hear them experimenting with a more metallic sound. Of course, I still love it, and it adds some diversity to the album.

8. Oh, George - This song foretells their later sound the most in my opinion. It reminds me of Long Road to Ruin, and it definitely has that classic Foo Fighters feel. This one grew on me as I listened as well.

9. For All the Cows - Great! Nice easy song to mix it up after a couple heavier songs. It does pick up for what I suppose is the chorus. But otherwise, it's almost bluesy and very smooth. I love it!

10. X-Static - Another song hinting at the Foo Fighters' later sound. Really cool stuff.

11. Wattershed - A small little punk song. Simple, but still really good.

12. Exhausted - I love the distortion and effects on this song. It's a great melody, and it's perfect to end the album.

Overall, I enjoyed this album quite a bit more than I thought I would. There are some songs that aren't as good, and others that go above and beyond, so this album's gonna end up with an almost perfect score. But wow, this album is amazing. You'll certainly enjoy it more if you're a fan of the whole alternative aesthetic. Otherwise, it's a fun little album that I'd recommend to any music fan.

Sorry I've been gone guys, I was just really busy for a couple of weeks.

And lastly, for Batty, if you like Kesha, you'll probably also like Clairity. She wrote a few songs with Kesha's mother, and it's rumored that Kesha worked on those songs as well. Her first EP, Alienation was released just a month ago, and her music is awesome. I would check it out if I were you. Here's a good example of her music:

Album: Third Stage
Artist: Boston
Genre: Hard Rock

Familiarity: Only heard singles from their first album, so this one is a mystery to me.

1. Amanda - It's a very good song, but it displays a lot of the 80s cheese that developed in between their second album and this one. Plus, this song doesn't really fit with the concept of the album. It's not bad at all, but it's just not the quality of songwriting you'd expect after hearing Boston's first album. As far as I know, Boston wasn't really in to the music at this point. The members pretty much just wanted to make one album, but ended up having to fulfill their three-album contract.

2. We're Ready - This one is already better than Amanda. I especially love the guitar at the beginning. Unfortunately, they still use the cheesy 80s guitar effect. I don't know, maybe I don't like it as much as I thought. Again, not terrible, but personally disappointing based on my previous experience with Boston. The ending ambience is interesting.

3. The Launch: a) Countdown b) Ignition c) Third Stage Seperation - I love the way the keys are used to produce a beep-boopy sound at the beginning. Really epic guitar work. I wasn't expecting any of their songs to be instrumental, but I think they do work really well as an instrumental band. This is my favorite song so far.

4. Cool the Engines - I don't know why Tom Scholz didn't just break down and make his own instrumental music. He's a very brilliant man. Either way, this is a great song, but Brad Delp's vocals are really killing the vibe for me. Never was a big fan of arena rock, and these guys are going full arena rock right now.

5. My Destination - I've heard this song before. Brad Delp's vocals fit this kind of song perfectly. And while I'm not a big fan of ballads, for some reason this one sounds great to me. Ends pretty abruptly, like the first track.

6. A New World - Awesome instrumental. I would assume it was engineered by Tom Scholz at some point as a companion to the song coming right after it.

7. To Be a Man - OH GOD THE EIGHTIES!!! This hard rock/soft rock fusion that was popular in the eighties is one of my least favorite things in music. Towards the end it actually gets really epic and amazing. Overall, it's pretty cool.

8. I Think I Like It - This one's a bit alternative. This album is like Boston + 80s. It sort of grew on me this time. Really great everything.

9. Can'tcha Say (You Believe in Me)/Still In Love - The vocal intro was cool. The piano was alright, and the ballad-y ness in the beginning was generic. This album is so bloody generic, it hurts. It is still good, but I feel like it's bad because it's Boston. I'll just have to deal with this. This song, for some strange reason, makes me want to do the weird snake dance that that guy in the "You Spin Me Right Round" music video does. The guitar section in the middle was excellent! So many conflicting emotions with this album. The heavier guitars come back in, and I feel like I'm hit by a wave of light. I think the longer you listen to Boston, the more amazing they sound.

10. Hollyann - Another one that has some punky vibes to it. The key solo was very entertaining. Yeah, this album is just fun.

I think that's really what it comes down to with this album. It's nothing groundbreaking. There are moments that shine through, and there are moments that are the most cheesy and terrible hard rock I've ever heard. But overall, this album is nothing to flip your s*** over.

Familiarity: I've heard a couple of the singles, and I read up on the background of the album. I'm pretty pumped with the Iggy Pop inspiration, seems like this one should be pretty good.

1. Warrior - This one's a pretty straight-forward electropop song. Though as usual, Kesha's vocals really work with the song. The bass is pretty cool as usual. The piano bit is also pretty well-written. The glitchy stuff around the 3-minute mark is also very well done I feel. Cool, good stuff.

2. Die Young - I was never that into mixing acoustic guitars in with pop music. It feels a bit forced. Nice mixing as usual, but this one is definitely missing the beauty of the majority of her music. It's one of those just "fun" songs.

3. C'mon - Never heard choral vocals in a Kesha song. But again, another "fun" song. Nothing amazing, but it's still good.

4. Thinking of You - The mixing is very, very good. And the guitar doesn't feel like it's being forcibly shoved in anymore. By the way the lyrics are all ridiculously stupid. I don't usually talk about the lyrics with her, but in this song they are particularly obvious. The weird vocalizer solo in the middle was the coolest part of the song.

5. Crazy Kids - The whistling is wonderfully imperfect, in my opinion. The mixing is really good, the rapping is really good, the vocals are good, even the guitar sounds good. I really like this one. At one point her vocals sound like Delores O'Riordan though.

6. Wherever You Are - No that I think about it, she sounds like an American Delores O'Riordan. This song sounds like something that might come from Daft Punk. That is, until the bass drops. The melody is still pretty Daft Punk-ish though. This one is really good. Great use of guitars in this one. I'm doing head shakes right now (as opposed to head banging). Really good song!

7. Dirty Love - The blues-y feel of this song is good. Really "raw power" on this one. Lots of "lust" in this one. I love how they didn't try to make Iggy be something he isn't. His vocals shine through just like all of his other music. This just gets better and better.

8. Wonderland - Man, Kesha's really going off into rock territory with this one. I would say this is "pop rock" with emphasis on the "rock". The guitars are great, and no complex mixing was even required. The keys backing this one up fit in perfectly. I really, really love this. In my opinion, this softer sound is fits her voice very well, and it's just outright really great. I love it.

9. Only Wanna Dance with You - Another just "fun" song, but it's still pretty cool stuff. This is not what I was expecting at all.

10. Supernatural - The intro has got some nightcore influences. And then it gets more Kesha-y during the verse. The glitchy sections in her songs are always awesome, and this is no exception. More excellent music from this one.

11. All That Matters (The Beautiful Life) - Another "fun" song, but it's still good.

12. Love into the Light - An experimental intro leads into a quieter song. I actually like this one a lot. The lyrics are really good, and the slower tempo is a nice way to mix things up.

Overall, I really enjoyed this album. Some parts were just "fun", but as the album went on, more and more of it was genuinely great music.
