And yes one should expect people to be unbiased when making lists about albums that ALL music listeners should try rather than people who are obsessed with finding the next most-weird thing out there. I don't see my way of listening to music as the objective "best" way...but you do, so that's why your lists are just terrible and borderline insulting in this context.
Well make a better list then. I may hate all of those albums that I listed as "unbiased examples" but I'd call them quintessential to the type of music fan that likes to see everything that the music world has to offer and can understand why they're important within their genre. So contribute or rightly **** off please.

I'd say that being a die hard music fan is also about trying to explore different, often obscure genres and if someone posts albums that are essential for those genres there's nothing wrong with that. And certainly nothing to feel borderline insulted by. It's not like hip-hop, jazz, classical, hard rock, psychedelic rock, several kinds of metal and some other very unobscure genres haven't been represented here.

So someone that loves just one main genre to death and knows just about everything about it and listens to its representatives old and new daily is NOT a diehard music fan? If that's what you're saying it just sounds really douchey and (here's the trigger word again!) pretentious.

Ugh. OP has been edited just for you YD. How about we post some albums now?

It depends on how one defines the term. Yeah, for me a music fan is someone who is interested in music in general, although obviously everyone has a certain taste and will tend towards some genres and shy away from others. The fan you described would be a #insert genre here# fan for me, which certainly wouldn't make this person's opinions and tastes bad or invalid though.

Ah yes there we go, everything is fixed. "I don't consider you a die hard music fan if you haven't heard most of this list, but don't worry you can give yourself that label if you want".

^That's not how I meant any of this at all, but if you would like to interpret it incorrectly you can do so. Quit derailing the thread please.

Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
John Coltrane - A Love Supreme, Ascension
John Cage - A String Quartet In Four Parts
Sonic Youth - Daydream Nation
Glenn Branca - Ascension

How am I derailing the thread by bringing up that I don't find any of the lists presented so far to be actual "quintessential" album lists? Nothing has gone off topic, if you can't handle the criticism of your thread that's another thing. Maybe in a while I'll work on a list that takes a word with a connotation as strong as "quintessential" seriously rather than just being a slightly editted version of my 50 favorite albums.

The OP doesn't say bitch about the thread it says put up albums you think people with a keen interest in music might want to check out.

Now seriously, **** off or contribute. Unlike you, I'm interested in what albums other people have to offer. I'd be interested in seeing your list.

I actually think that the discussion about how one defines die hard music fan is somewhat interesting and not necessarily out of place in this thread. Although YD seems to be too busy being disturbingly angry to really contribute to that as well.
