I like how an instrument is anything that can be adapted to make music

Definitely agree. Well, except for computers of course. If it's easy, it ain't an instrument!

They don't have that many varying tones when you hit them anyway

People used to be douchebags. Thank you for what you've done, Mariah Carey.
Sigh. One more try.

Before that video came out 24 years ago, me, and I'm sure countless of millions of others, had never seen bucket drums (or anything other than traditional percussion instruments) used in that sort of setting. That song was a huge #1 hit and Carey was on the verge of mega-super-stardom. Next thing you know bucket drums were everywhere. In commercials, movies, and other videos. PVC pipe percussion followed suit via The Blue Man Group.

They've always been an instrument. Her video just gave them a bit more commercial public cred. Not that it should matter, but I'd wager Larry Wright (who became a bit of a sensation) would argue otherwise.

I know what you're saying, it's just fun to make jokes off of your wording. Feel free to do me anytime and I'll laugh with you.

Looks like Han agrees with you. I would've tried it out for longer than he did though.
