"What?" "Whatever you want."

Actually, I've been meaning to listen to Math+Science more for a while. Heard Psychedelicious but that's it.

Spoiler for big ass album cover thanks ki:
The Introductory Period In Which I Introduce The Album: Okay so we're kicking this off with some of Ki's keys... you get it? Because like piano keys? Okay so anyway now it's hella reverby in here, lots of feedback from the sparse keys. And... okay the track is over. That was over before it really had the chance to go anywhere. I liked the idea of it, just maybe could have been a little more to it? I Feel A More Abrupt Approach To My Music Will Satisfy Peoples Desires: Top notch song titles all over this bitch. This one is pretty chaotic, has that improvised feel to it, but then it fades out into some light synths. The worst part here is I want to turn my volume up but I know what will happen if I do so, you know. Oh, this is getting kind of cool. Lots of noise in the mix now, the synths continue in the background but there's also this weird eerie atmosphere to the track that keeps coming through. Nice track, I think I like your stuff more when you take a little bit of time to develop the song. Ring Around The Rosie: So it's the nursery rhyme, just a little mixed up and with some vocal effects on it. Super ****ing scary and I'm home alone so s/o Ki for making me lock myself in my bedroom, you dickhead. This is pretty cool though, I like the idea to it, although I'm not entirely sure how it fits into the album, but we shall see. I'm Not Even Trying To Make Good Music Anymore: This track title is rather interesting because it insinuates that contrary to popular belief Ki was trying for awhile... sorry I had to squeeze one joke in here, it's mandatory. Is that rain in the background? Or water? Kind of a cool blend of styles once the guitar riff comes. It's all pretty basic but as the layers stack up on top of each other it really comes together and turns into something neat. This is another song I would like to see you expand on though. I know you don't really have any "long" songs on this album, but I think you could definitely take this idea a little further and develop a better song through doing so. Still solid. Interlude (Oh Look, You're Almost Done): Hey look it almost looks like a sad face... but anyway this track is really cool because it has a edm/dance feel to the synths in it. My only beef is the fact that I can hear you playing the keyboard or w/e and while maybe that was on purpose for some lo-fi charm, I think it's kind of annoying. Untitled Because I'm Too Lazy To Think Of A Proper Title For This Track: I'm excited to see what you're able to do with the longer song lengths. Like I said, I think a lot of your ideas could be built upon a bit further so now is the chance to do it with a song that's nearly 4 minutes long. Wild out on the drums to open it, meh. Now the synths are in, it's noisy and full of reverb like you would expect from one of Ki's songs. Solid so far. I like this one a fair bit, I think you definitely benefited from not rushing this song and giving it some time to progress. This Track Is My Favourite: I love the piano that opens this one up, I have feeling it could be my favourite too. Basically the same little piano piece but as it builds up it gets quicker and quicker until it switches into something a little different which also speeds up and does the same thing. Definitely my favourite track here. The End (Not Really): You ****ing troll, making me think this was over before I got to the third word. Ambience. More ambience. Didn't really see the point in that one, to be honest with you. Improv (In Reverse): Dude, the sound of the rewinding reminds me of Radiohead and you know I'm down with that. Daydreaming>>> But anyway, back to the topic at hand. This is cool, it literally sounds like you're listening to a song backwards, which is a neat concept. The only issue I have, and it's kind of a big issue, is that this was the longest track on the project. I think it would have been neat if you had have played the song forward and then reversed it, or done two different version, maybe use a rewound version of the intro for the outro, something like that. I just struggle with this as a full 5 minute track. The Real True Ending To The Album (I Mean It): And this is how we close it all out, folks. Is this the one you were talking about in the shoutbox Ki? It does sound like a washing machine? I like it a lot. Reminds me of the new Matmos album. It also kind of sounds like someone beat boxing. I'd say that's a pretty strong ending, maybe my second favourite track on the project. Oh ****, it's getting LOUD. That was pretty solid Ki. I hope I didn't offend/upset/disappoint you, because that was as honest and straight forward as I could be with my thoughts. I think it's a pretty impressive album to be honest, and I think sometimes your stuff gets overlooked just because there's so much of it that it's hard for any of us to have the time to hear it. I'd say this is definitely worth a listen to anyone who a) hasn't heard Ki's music yet or b) likes Ki's music. If you have heard and aren't a fan, this probably won't convert you, but it's still an improvement from the other stuff I've heard. As far as what I liked from it, I think you did a great job with the short piano pieces and that last track was cool as hell. I do think the volume is still a bit much, there are times were you created some really intriguing atmospheres with your synths but I couldn't turn it up and let it really pull me in because I had to worry about it getting louder again. Aside from that, if I haven't stressed it enough already, I really think you should try to stretch out your ideas a little more. There were a few tracks that I liked but with a minute or two more added onto them I think I could have loved them. So yeah, that's that, good stuff dude, keep it up. Also, if anybody else wants a review you can give me an internet bj or paypal me $500 & three naked pictures.

Thanks a bunch man. The album wasn't nearly as perfect as I wanted it to be, but it's an endeavor I pushed myself to do in order to give my stuff a bit more time to breath, and I see it paid off. Your critiques are to be expected as when I record on my piano, I have my mic right above it, so what your hearing is the unfortunate drawback of having the type of piano that I have. I want to get a smaller one so those sounds don't become to evident, but that's always been a concern of mine.
I'm glad to see you enjoyed it overall, I know you're not a big fan of noise, but the Psychephilia project is meant to find the middle ground for those that want more softer stuff. I guess I forgot to mention that there are very few instances where noise is a factor, so had you known that, the enjoyment may have gone up. But thanks a bunch anyway, I'm glad you reviewed it and the critiques are again to be expected. |
