Ole Lou really hurt your feelings with that album, didn't he?

Yes because so much of his total discography is so utterly brilliant, it tarnishes his body of work

Is that really how you see it? I usually just listen to albums on their own merit, not in the context of other albums by that artist, unless it's a new release and I have high expectations or something like that. Captain Beefheart released Unconditionally Guaranteed, a heaping stew of ****e that he fed to orphans for kicks, but he also released Trout Mask Replica, the greatest album ever made. The existence of the former has zero effect on my opinion of Beefheart.

I happen to like MMM quite a bit. It's layers of feedback almost becomes beautiful sometimrs. It really is the precursor to noise music like Merzbow and the like.

aka music that I find to be terrible, so this isn't very convincing to me

I don't see how I could ever find "layers of feedback" to be beautiful, hell that's something I've even used in my own music but it's not an hour long and it's meant to be extremely unpleasant in the context of the song I'm using it in. I'll never see why an hour straight of just that is considered by some people to be anything more than self-indulgent garbage
