They're not a dealbreaker; I never said that.

If you'd read my journal over the years you'd have seen me review classical and other instrumental albums, and note that they're very hard to review, as unless you're a musician it's hard to get across the feel of an album without any lyrics. I don't hate instrumental albums; I listen to a lot of them. But they do need to interest me, especially for reviews. With a vocal, I can hear what the guy/girl is singing about and it engages me more. While I love classical music, some electronic, soundtracks etc,. I find them all very difficult to properly review. Like I said, I would listen to Herbie in the background, but ask me to describe the music and I would, as you saw, have a problem.

I did. I never said I didn't like any instrumental albums, but I need to feel it. I didn't with our man Herb.

There's nothing to understand. I've explained it above. Just as you would prefer, probably, not to listen to a long keyboard solo in a progressive rock concept album, I often find instrumental albums boring. I said it about Neal Schon's one in my journal, but Plankton's was great. So in fact was YD's Daydream Society one, and then there was David something in Metal Month II; nearly put me to sleep. I often find instrumental music can do that, make me nod off, and that's not really a help when you're trying to write your thoughts on the album...
