Title: Wrong
Artiste: NoMeansNo
Genre: Punk (oh joy!)

Love
1. The bassline in “The Tower” is very catchy
Edit to add: 2. the last three tracks are all pretty decent to be fair.

Hate
1. Duh! The vocals. Punk singers always seem to be angry and shouting; this guy is no exception
2. Too fast and aggressive; hard to concentrate on anything.
3. Everything else. Really lost interest quite early.

End result: Hasn't changed my mind about punk. I left it running but kind of tuned out halfway. Nothing happened to make me sit up and take notice again.

So, Love or Hate? A very definite Hate

Chances of a full review: 0/10

Edit: I should add, that I put this post up before the album was finished, and in fairness the last two tracks were not half bad. Despite I called them aggressive, I think they're probably less so than other punk bands I've heard of, and they can be, to be fair, quite melodic. So maybe not all that bad. But still not my cup of Lyons...

This is a great thread so far, and I can't wait to read what you think of BW Presents SMiLE.

I'm hoping for another JoJo situation.

Warning: it ain't pretty. And I didn't.

Title: The Smile Sessions
Artiste: Brian Wilson
Genre: Pop/Surf Rock/Who the **** knows?

Love
Melody on the second track; much better
Orchestral bit at the end of this, very nice
I've said before I hear what must have been an influence on The Alan Parsons Project with Wilson's work, and it's clearly evident here on “Surf's up”
Well. Finally. I know “Good vibrations”, and who couldn't like that?

Hate
The opening track; more of that vocal harmony vocalise I don't like from The Beach Boys
What is it with this guy and animal sounds?
"Cabin essence" goes from rustic folky tune to some sort of mad vocal athletics. Bah!
Zzzzzzzzzzz.....
Now he's singing about ****ing vegetables! Does this guy want me to hate him??
Xylophones and slide whistles? Is this an episode of “The Simpsons”??

End result: Kind od a big yawnfest and gave me the impression Wilson was just doing an ELP: look how clever and creative I am. Thinking out of the box? What box? Yeah, but some good songs would have been nice. Very very much a case of style over substance for me.

So, Love or Hate? No question, it's a solid Hate.

Yeah, that album's easily one of my favourites ever. Ripped my heart out. You can catch a brief review of it in my journal "Classic Albums I have never heard". I'm only doing albums here that I haven't heard before, otherwise that would have got the most solid LOVE I could give it.
