Title: Meet The Residents Artiste: The Residents Genre: Avant-garde/ Experimental Familiarity: Zero Track 1(Hate) You sure this isn't a Beefheart album? Track 2(Love) Well at least it has music this time. Still not mad about it though but not as terrible as the first track. Track 3(Love) Nice bit of sax with a weird percussion; the vocals are more like something out of The Goons though. Yeah, I'm that old. No, not really. Track 4(Hate) Like two squeaky pigs fighting over a bass guitar. Oh, with added dog. Track 5(Love) Kind of an odd “Looney Tunes” feel to this Track 6(Hate) Now we have gypsies playing videogames Track 7(Love) This isn't bad. Nice instrumental, with cool piano and some not-too-annoying horns. The first track of any proper length too; the rest have all been about a minute long. Track 8(Love) Hmm. Not too bad really. Track 9(Love) Bit too much operatic screaming in it for my tastes, but overall not bad Track 10(Love) Waits huh? Like it. Track 11(Hate) Heard this when I ran “I'm dreaming of a weird Christmas” last year. Hated it then, hate it now. Track 12(Hate) A bit weird (which is saying something for this album!) They're certainly into repetition, aren't they? End result: Just really weird and not at all my cup of tea. Who would have known huh? So, Love or Hate? I know there are more green than red tracks, but I'm just being kind here. In reality, this is a Hate. Chances of a full review: 0/10

So far, you've made Waits comparisons in 7 reviews. It seems the music world owes a lot to him!

Title: Kill the moonlight Artiste: Spoon Genre: Indie Familiarity: Zero Track 1(Love) Nice jangly guitar and organ opening, uptempo, very catchy Track 2(Love) Also very catchy. Like this. Track 3(Love) A bit rockier Track 4(Love) Not sure if that's just someone breathing, a sample of a dog barking or some sort of instrument, but it adds a lot to this track and it's all through it. The digital piano really adds something too. Track 5(Love) Kind of reminds me of Squeeze in parts Track 6(Hate) Odd kind of phasing in this track. Not sure I like it.No, I don't. Track 7(Love) Very seventies Bowie on this Track 8(Hate) Too stripped down. The ABBA piano riff is interesting Track 9(Love) Yeah this is okay. Interest is beginning to wane a little though... Track 10(Hate) Nah, that's just terrible. Track 11(Love) This is better, if a little throwaway Track 12(Love) This, however, is beautiful and a last strong closing effort. End result: A decent enough album but, the closer apart, I couldn't see me being interested or impressed enough to come back for more. So, Love or Hate? Given all that though, I didn't hate it so it's another Love. Chances of a full review: 3/10

Still, I felt like there was a possibility that you would like it. As far as weird as hell experimental music goes, I've always found The Residents to be somewhat accessible and catchy. Well, I'm fairly certain you'll enjoy the krautrock that's coming up.

Yay Tortoise is up next! That should be a daily good introduction to the more krautrock orientated stuff coming up as Tortoise carries a lot of influence from that scene. Can't wait to hear what you think of this one.

Title: Millions now living will never die Artiste: Tortoise Genre: Post rock Familiarity: Zero Track 1(Love) Starting off with a twenty-minute track is pushing it; I hope this lives up to its promise. Well it kind of is. It's very relaxing and enjoyable, and we're about halfway through. Nice. Some lovely interplay between I think vibes and violin now (about minute twelve) though there are odd things happening in the fifteenth (is that kind of jumping about and skipping/stuttering meant to happen?) Gone a bit weird now. Getting a little more back on track, slowing near the end. On balance I really liked this and it didn't seem like twenty minutes, always a good sign. Oh, and whalesong at the very end? Class. Track 2(Love) A little harder, as it were, but really nice. Track 3(Love) Some great bass kicking this off. Oh, okay: it was basically all bass. Hmm. Track 4(Love) Some really nice piano/vibes/something here. Galloping percussion works well. Track 5(Hate) Have to be honest, I just don't like this one. Track 6(Love) This however is great. Love the slide guitar, and it has a sort of cowboy/western theme to it. Good closer, very good. End result: I've mentioned before that instrumental albums struggle often to maintain my interest, but this one certainly did. Very pleasant and enjoyable. So, Love or Hate? A definite Love. Chances of a full review: 3/10 (mostly because of my tendency to avoid reviewing too many instrumental albums)
