Title: The Golden Age Artiste: Woodkid Genre: Baroque pop/Neofolk/Experimental, says Wiki... Track 1(Love) Absolutely beautiful. Gorgeous piano, like his voice, then there are cellos and violins; just superb. If anything this reminds me of The Divine Comedy. Great beginning. Track 2(Love) More uptempo, great drama, excellent percussion. Another fine track. Track 3(Love) And another. I'm getting a good feeling about this album. Track 4(Love) Another beautiful piano ballad. Can this album get any better? Track 5(Love) More upbeat, with a sort of ethnic feel and some really nice bells, this is another great track Track 6(Love) I know we're less than halfway through but I think I can confidently predict that there will be nothing on this album that I don't like. Track 7(Love) Has a certain touch of darkness about it, but very very effective. Love the synths. Track 8(Love) I have these reviews done in a sort of fillable matrix, with the “Love” or “Hate” part left of course blank, and at the moment I feel like just going down the list and hitting each one as “Love”. Maybe it will save time. This is a superb instrumental, so emotional. Cellos are one of my favourite instruments. So sad and yet so uplifting at the same time. Track 9(Love) The power and passion in this track is amazing. Dramatic to the max. Track 10(Love) Just another amazing track. Great orchestral-style keyboards and a wonderful melody and beat. Track 11(Love) Ok, it's only forty seconds long but come on! It sounds like the probe from out of “Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home”, so I'm happy! Track 12(Love) Another beautiful ballad. This guy is amazing. The more I hear him the more I hear the similarities to TDC. Stunning. Track 13(Love) Returns a kind of dark ethnic feel to the music, and I think it reprises or reuses a motif from one of the other songs, but they're all so good I can't remember which. Track 14(Love) And we end on what for a half-second I thought might be a cover of “Hallowed be thy name” by Iron Maiden (!) but is in fact a perfect closer to what is pretty much a perfect album. Unbelievable. End result: If you hadn't worked it out by now, I absolutely love this album. Thanks DWV for introducing me to this guy's music. I owe ya! So, Love or Hate? Not only Love, but I think this deserves the accolade of being the second True Love Chances of a full review: 10/10 |
Glad you enjoyed. This thread has been great. Here's my next rec if you plan on continuing with it:

glad you liked it man :) Pink is by far the most accessible Boris album....and probably their best.... i think my next choice for you (Mocket) may push your boundaries but i hope you can see that punk music can be fun and danceable and not have people screaming at you :) and i think i'd like to push them a little more with a proper Neofolk album :) so please add to the list.... http://assets.boomkat.com/images/109149/333.jpg Kiss The Anus of a Black Cat - An Interlude to the Outermost i would just like to point out that this album is easily within my top 5 favorite albums of all time :) |
