Hopping on the Strawberry Jam hype.

Title: Tom shall pass
Artiste: Aesop Waits
Genre: Mix I guess? Mashup? Whatever...

Track 1 (Hate) Nah don't like this. There's a vague Waitsy vibe but basically it's a rap track.
Track 2 (Hate) Same. Don't hear any Waits here.
Track 3 (Love) This is a little better; merges a proper Waits song “Underground” with his own stuff
Track 4 (Hate) No, don't like this at all. It doesn't help that he's chosen so many tracks off Alice or Blood Money, two of my least favourite and seldom listened to albums.
Track 5 (Hate) It's a bit hard to keep up with this as I have to use a YouTube and it's all one track of course, plus I don't recognise much of the Waits parts of the songs. But I'm pretty sure I hate this.
Track 6 (Hate) Don't get this one at all. Meh.
Track 7 (Hate) Hoping for much better from this one, as I know “Shore leave” well. This however I do not know. Terrible, and bears no resemblance to the Waits song that I can see. Ok I can hear bits of it but not enough to qualify this for me to like it.
Track 8 (Hate) No further comments would appear to be necessary
Track 9 (Hate)
Track 10 (Hate)
Track 11 (Hate)
Track 12 (Love) Okay, I actually like this one. A lot. Yeah, even the rapping. I like the way it melds with “Dirt in the ground”. Good job, for once.
Track 13 (Hate) Back to normal. Sigh.
Track 14 (Hate) Terrible. Just ... just terrible.
Track 15 (Hate) No, Just, just no.

End result: I really expected to like this so much more than I did. I could hear the bits of Waits songs here and there but overall it was just like listening to a hip-hop album, which has yet to be a pleasant experience for me. Very disappointed. Goofle, ya let me down man!

So, Love or Hate? Much as I hesitate to have the word connected with Waits, I'm afraid it's a very solid Hate

Chances of a full review: 0/10

I didn't think you would like. It was more of a gateway to embracing Hip Hop lyrics without worrying about the beats. It failed apparently.

Don't you talk about how you don't give a damn about song lyrics on a regular basis?

That would be me. Though your post is obviously an over simplification.

It did. Sorry. I really wasn't interested as the lyrics were too fast and involved for me, and I was really hoping for more Waits. With added Waits.

Duh! Of course I have dude! It's Dio's last album! And I wrote a whole special on him a few years back, remember? That was included. I'll link you if you want but it was long, eight parts I think.

Don't misunderstand: that's not a rating of the album. I'm not saying it gets zero out of ten. It's a rating of the likelihood that I would go deeper into a review on it, in my journal. Most albums I don't like will get this rating. It just means I have no intention of fully reviewing it.

As I didn't go with the "Love, Hate or Meh" thing, I've had to choose between the two and as each are pretty rigid concepts, I've found myself "Loving" albums I don't really love, but don't Hate.

To address this, I'm introducing the further concept of "True Love". Any album that attains this status is one I really do love, not just like. So in future, if I like or really like an album it will get a "Love" status, but if I really think it's brilliant and really enjoy it it will be shown as "True Love".

(Note: this will only apply to the overall rating in "So, Love or Hate?" (which won't change to encompass the new rating), not to each individual track, which will still be rated as one or the other).
