Title: Melting Sun Artiste: Lantlôs Genre: Experimental Black Metal Familiarity: Zero Recommended by: Machine Expectations: The experimental tag worries me. Some black metal I've listened to has been great, some good, some awful. Hard to really know what to expect. Gonna take a chance and say I hope to like it. 1. Melting Sun I: Azure chimes: Well the titles are certainly not your standard black metal ones! All bright colours, hardly any darkness, unless you count aquamarine. Nice gentle acoustic guitar opening, though I'm waiting for a mad scream and hammering riffs; well there the latter is, though not as harsh as I had expected. Ooh! The vocal is a normal one, no scream, no rasp, no growl. Nice surprise. Actually I couldn't call this any shade of black metal I've ever heard, not even atmospheric. Maybe they were black metal and changed later? Anyway this is really nice. 2. Melting Sun II: Cherry quartz: Yeah, this is much more like post-rock or post-metal. Great work on the guitar, fine melody. Sort of a touch of progressive metal in here too. 3. Melting Sun III: Aquamarine towers: Nice long feedback start, kind of Sabbath riff driving it for the first part 4. Melting Sun IV: Jade fields: another great little mostly instrumental, very powerful. 5. Melting Sun V: Oneironaut: A short one, atmospheric, think it may be all instrumental this time. 6. Melting Sun VI: Golden mind: Lovely reflective, almost warped guitar, slow and laidback with a nice soft vocal. Really quite beautiful. Gives me a kind of Floyd vibe. End result: An excellent album, but nowhere near anything approaching black metal. Not sure where that came from. So, Love or Hate? Has to be a Love.

Maybe use your own brain for the genre tags? Just an idea.

[QUOTE=Trollheart;1665106]Yeah... it's great but I can't see how it could be classed as any kind of black metal. You should maybe try this
(video removed) or this (video removed) or even this (video removed) Thanks I will listen when I get the chance. Never too late to see the light in thhis genre, perhaps (black metal is dark but you know what I mean). I've heard a lot of talk about Blut Aus Nord but never actually pressed play on any video/stream. I will rectify that. |
