Oblique is used across the entire military, or at least it was when I was in, and that was 30 years ago next year, so things have probably changed. It really depends on your drill instructor, and where he/she was trained.

Not my fault your terminology is out of date. "By your left/right flank" might be out of date too. I learned that from my public school JROTC Marine drill instructor, and he was a bit on the old side. Don't know if different branches use slightly different commands though, so it might just be a Marine thing.

I imagine Fishburne Military School probably made sure to stay more current, so it was just "left/right flank". And "oblique" was just "half right/left" I believe. I know that's how we did the facing movement while at attention (while adding "face" at the end), but I think it may have been the same when marching.

You know, I can actually still do most of those facing movements even after a decade. Every once in a while I'll pull an "about face" when standing or walking, just for kicks. Sometimes I'll even find myself walking in step when hanging out with a friend without even noticing I'm doing it.
