I've always preferred listening to the band Green Carnation with headphones, specifically "Light of Day, Day of Darkness". There's a lot of layers to that track, so a good pair of headphones really helps you hear all the backing tracks.

I was thinking it may even be down to simple acoustics, my room may just not agree with certain songs. It definitely can't be the mixing because it would sound the same on headphones. I guess like you said, headphones allow you to catch the denser layers some tracks may have, and speakers unfortunately dissipate it.
