Without marijuana growing up, getting into some of my favorite artists/records wouldn't of been as life-changing as they were. At the time pot made shitty music sound excellent, so I figured I'm just gonna listen to well received lauded records while high and my mind was constantly blown for 2-3 years.

Within that time I'd heard the important seminal albums, now it seems harder picking through the deeper cuts, but always satisfying finding another record I can stand behind. All while still being high off my balls.

I've never been high and plan not to, but my guess is that mediocre and bad music would be a lot more entertaining.

I don't believe that drugs will make you appreciate music, music is a personal thing to most people and I'd say it's more emotions that help you appreciate music. But in saying that, some drugs do have an affect when I create music, it opens up a creative part of the mind. I'm not a mass dope smoker or heavily on LSD but I've experimented a bit. But still 100% raw emotion and passion makes music beautiful and true.

If I had made it past 20 without digging into any drugs, or even experimenting a bit, I think I'd keep going clean as long as possible, it's insanely rare meeting somebody completely clean post-highschool, I don't know a single person. It's a hell of an accomplishment.

One day when I was 10'd, I spent a lot of time listening to the longest Sonic Youth, Swans, and krautrock songs I knew, and that was excellent

Whenever I hear someone who's never done drugs and plans to never do them -- barring some kind of personal, drug-related tragedy -- I always assume they're just uptight and need to loosen up. I'm usually right, too. I imagine Roxy feels the same.
