Israel has been in it since 1973! All you need to do is be a member of the EBU. The "Euro" part of the name "Eurovision" comes from "European Broadcasting Union." I don't think geography matters as long as you bring the spirit of friendly competition eh?
Btw Monkeytennis, part of Turkey is geographically in Europe! Lilja, I finally had a chance to watch the vid of that guy signing "Heroes" - I laughed and cried, it's so great. Thank you for sharing it, that's amazing. I 100% agree that the guys should sign for the whole show! He's wonderful. Last edited by misspoptart; 04-04-2015 at 09:46 AM. |

I have to include his signed version of the song I wished had gone on to Eurovison. He did a great job of signing a joik...something I did not think could really be done. BTW did anyone else catch the Eurovision 60 year show from England. Actually quite good. Last edited by Lilja; 04-05-2015 at 05:45 AM. |

Nothing Special
Last and very much least I will introduce you to the two songs that basically got left out of every other post. It's not that there is anything right or wrong about them, I am perfectly neutral about both pieces.
I will say that Germany's winner was quite scandalous, when the audience and televoting result chose a different candidate, he declined the win, passing his win onto Ann Sophie instead and saying that she was far more deserving of it. Very interesting and outrageous, Twitter went crazy. I think most of Germany still wishes that the other guy was going. Fine, but not something that will get many votes. It's too similar to Germany's 2010 entry, I think. Considering that Poland sent the most hypersexualized and atrocious song last year, I'm a bit surprised by this year's entry. Surprised by how BORING it is, I mean! Oh well. And I thinkkkk that's everyone! In my next post, I'll give you guys a selection of near misses that would have been much more fun than what we actually got. Adios for now! |

Near Misses
Here are a few tracks that I think should have made it into Eurovision this year. Most countries do a national final televoting selection nowadays, and generally these contests are also live streamed to the world, so I like watching those too. Sadly my favorites never win, which I think is a testament to my superior taste (too good for Eurovision). Just kidding. Not really!
The first is this genius work by Laing, an alternative and interesting German electronica trio. I love this group. Every since I saw the performance below I have downloaded their entire discography. They made it into the top 4 but were sadly beaten out by a creepy dude and Ann Sophie. Laing is the classic example of "too good for Eurovision." Damn their show was cool. I thought Eurovision is ready for this kind of cool. What a shame! I would have loved to see this on stage in Vienna. And don't get me wrong, not all my first choices were artsy and hip. I also fell for the cheesy and eurotrash Barrice from Greece. His song "Ela" was so catchy and danceable, I really wish we could have gotten at least one track like this in 2015! It's also got that obligatory ethnic interlude that turns me on so much: Granted, the live performance was ****e, so I guess I should be glad Greece has at least an ear for singers who can hold a tune. Still. I would have rocked out to this! Isn't it better than a ballad? We always need a little opera at Eurovision. And Finland delivered this year. But sadly, the voting public sent a monotone rock band instead. Honestly, anything would have been better than that. But I particularly liked this masterpiece: De-pantsed! And this hilariousness: Oh Finland. You messed up this year! Oh well. |

I must say, what an exciting show! I was so sure that Russia was going to win for a bit (although you could hear the booing of any high number voting for Russia even from here). If she had represented any other country but Russia, I am sure she would have sailed her way into the top spot. Yes politics should not be a part of Eurovision but..honestly..Russia? Let's double check with the Ukraine...umm...no.
Congradulations to Sweden...wait..that is my country! Yippee! That means I am going to see it live next year! Although I am never surprised that England gets so little points, I was a bit surprised that it was this little. It wasn't a bad song at all. But then Austria scored 0 along with Germany and their songs were just as good as Russia's..but thankfully not as good as Sweden's Last edited by Lilja; 05-24-2015 at 03:29 AM. |

It was awesome! I really really really wanted Belgium to win by the end, but I'm SO glad it wasn't Russia. That would have been a real tragedy for the Eurovision fandom.
Congrats to Sweden! maybe I'll see you there, Lilja! |
