Yeah, the lovely Roxy once again cuts through the crap and gets to the heart of the matter. It can indeed be that simple. Why don't they talk about X? Cos they don't have any interest in it. Generally speaking, it would seem pop stars are not the type of people you expect to be very well educated in political or social issues. Remember that bastion of social awareness and political opinion, Britney? "Well he's the president so we should listen to him." Yeah. Says it all really.
This is a lot of why artistes working outside of, let's not call it mainstream or current, as that is just getting misinterpreted and could cover so much more, let's say pop artists, tend to tackle these issues. The artistes I and others have mentioned are not totally concerned with chart performance, airplay and pleasing sponsors, and know they can be more controversial in what they say because sometimes that's why their fans buy their music.

With that being said, I have a great deal of respect for artists who are willing to put their reputation or career on the line for a social cause. (Once again not all pop stars are like this and I understand that) However, I have tremendous respect for the artists that do this because imo it shows character and dignity. This is partially the reason why I feel a personal connection with MJ and Stevie Wonder because they actually stood up for causes and weren't just "pop stars" and they use their star power and influence to do that Once again, I know not all stars are going to do this but just saying.. Its interesting that the pop stars of today's generation are not as interested in the same causes or issues. I think it is very telling because imo it shows the priorities today's pop stars places on certain things above other issues. |

Not making music about a social cause =\= not being interested in social issues. I'm extremely passionate about being pro vaccine and the antivaccine movement is a huge issue today, but I make instrumental music. I'm not going to change up my style just to reflect something else that I'm passionate about.

You are doing it again. Ignoring every single word posted that contradicts your opinion and blabbering on with your own personal agenda. Over and over again. Girl, open up your mind to what your fellow MB posters have been trying to say. This has been a great thread BTW.

Your right it does not necessarily equate to that in all cases but imo I think this is the case for most cases. |

However, I think it is both. I think today's pop stars are shallow and I think there is an agenda to push superficial ideas and themes in place of more substance in music. Like many have mentioned already, this is not "solely" the fault of the pop stars. |

I highly disagree. Art doesn't have to always reflect the artist. You can just keep going off of conjecture to feed into your conspiracy logic though.

A real artist will make material that reflects their inner feelings and input, thats what makes an artist. They create things based on their feelings and what burns in their heart. |
