Meh, personally I don't think so. Steinman has always had a weird sense of humour. You remember "Love, death and an American guitar?"
Here it is in case you don't know it.

A couple of interesting selections, Trollheart!
Though I expected Pandora´s Box to be more musical, I have no problem with spoken word. As you say it´s got some rhythm, which makes it similar to poetry recital. That´s close enough to a capella for me. The ending didn´t do much for me to be honest, but I really liked the body of the "song"; the imaginative list of losers and other undesirables was genuinely entertaining. None the less, my vote goes to those country ladies for their version of a song that is more heartfelt, and relies less on the novelty factor. Plus Gillian Welch is a fave of mine, so it would be disloyal if I didn´t vote for her. Box: still at 0 Country trio: 2 PS: I feel I did pretty well to identify Jim Steinman as one of the Meatloaf guys, but I´m afraid I won´t be exploring his solo projects on the basis of what I´ve heard here.

So far then: Pandora's Box: 0 Three Times a Lady: 3 Spoiler for Steinman songs:
Incidentally, if you don't like his spoken stuff, you won't like "I've been dreaming up a storm lately", in which an evil mirror shows him how to commit multiple murders!

Thanks for the selection of Jim Steinman solo, Trollheart - and thanks for your edgy vote, Pet_Sounds! We need an irreverent younger voice here, otherwise DwnWthVwls will think he´s stumbled into an old people´s home.
Talking of which, to try and maintain some momentum here, I´m thinking of moving on to the next round straight away, so, if TH has no objection, the win goes to Three Times A Lady, and you´re up next, DWV.

These are two really good songs, DWV. I enjoyed them both. Some a capella songs, from the opening bars, are kind of predictable but these compositions are full of variety and surprises, while still being smooth and easy on the ear. I´m going to listen to them some more before I commit myself to an actual vote though.
PS. the Texas Songhorns song says "Aloe Blacc cover"; any idea who Aloe Black is?
