Somewhat off topic, but how can you just describe your favorite music with one label?

I can never just say "metal", I just to elaborate and make a long winded speech.
Even then saying "metal" leads to the immediate follow up, what kind of metal?

I keep it simple precisely to avoid a long winded speech that I've given many times before since it's a pretty typical thread. It's clear to me that my favorite music comes from folk most of the time, although I love most forms of music I come across. It's my most consistently listened to and extensively enjoyed type of music and it's what I identify my taste with above anything else. I could name endless beloved genres and bands from all ends of the spectrum and such but "folk" seemed more appropriate for the thread.
