The Recommend Stuff to Briks thread
...in which you recommend stuff to me. Janszoon has his Beatles thread, Trollheart has his jazz thread, and The Batlord has his prog one, so goddammit, I want a thread like this as well. I'm pretty young, so obviously I have relatively little experience when it comes to music. This thread is basically an opportunity for you to shape my musical tastes. Neat? My favourites are alternative rock, metal and punk rock (though I'm not particularly well-versed in any of them), but I'm open to most styles. I will try listen to and comment on everything that's posted here. Oh, and please post albums instead of just telling me to check out discographies. This will act kind of like a journal, with regular updates in which I give my thoughts about the albums recommended. Update #1 |
Would you be willing to give post-rock a try? I've got some bands that could tickle your fancy in that genre.

I can give you some cool expiremental rock and stuff if you're interested.
Eventually I'm going to have to make one of these threads for myself. |

Hammerhead - Into The Vortex before you start floating on a nice post rock trip.... link sent |
I'll compile a short list and i'll post it here soon. Just need to go through my library and pick out the good ones. Both bands you mentioned though are fantastic. Some at the top of my head include God Is An Astronaut and Moonlit Sailor.
As far as albums go by those bands... Age of the Fifth Sun by God Is An Astronaut is fantastic Moonlit Sailor have two of my favorite post-rock albums, titled A Footprint of Feelings and So Close To Life. Can't go wrong with either one in my opinion. I assume you've listened to Sigur Ros as well, but if not, I'd recommend Takk.. and Valtari. Their other albums are pretty good as well, but those two are my favorites. I'll have more, but those are the one I can think of right now. |

Can - Tago Mago Alright so my rec to you for expiremental rock comes from seminal psych rock/krautrock band Can and there 2nd full length Tago Mago. You get you're nice shorter more rock orientated tracks like Mushroom (grooviest track ever!) and Paperhouse, as well as jams like Oh Yeah and Hallelluwah. My personal favorite is the synth nightmare-scape that is Aumgn it scared the hell out me the first time I heard it. Definately check this out if you haven't already. |
I've seen people talk about Tago Mago here a lot, so I've been meaning to listen to it, but I've never actually done it. That's changing soon.
