I have a highly-structured, systematic and methodical means of music discovery. I channeled it into a comprehensive evaluation and guide which includes excerpts from The 2014 edition of The Innerspace Library Reboot Manual.

The guide begins with a case study of Last.FM, streaming services, music blogs, and an exploration of genre subreddits, as well as a test of RateYourMusic.com and the Gnod engine.

From there I itemized a step-by-step acquisition and listening system which I employ for each new genre I explore.

If you're interested, you can read the article here.

Default New Question

Hey guys,

I need some advice for a quick 15 minute musical/production that I am doing for school.

We have the two songs; What a Wonderful World and New York New York.

We have to chose one to be the solo and the other has to be danced to and sung by a choir of sorts.

Which one would be best for each role?

Thanks,

Will

Default how to discover new music?

Hi,
I would like to ask you do you know any webside or app with only unknown yet music with discovering tool that really works? I use spotify and last fm, but I would like to find music that is not well known yet and also it must be music matching my music taste (not sorted by "genres" and not "related artists" - it doesn't work).

Youtube and Pandora come to mind, not to mention Soundcloud and Bandcamp. I've also heard mixed things about Pitchfork. Grooveshark was another option, but I think they were shut down.

Asking sometimes works.

Thanks for your answer. Has Soundcloud a "sorting tool"? I can't find it. I would like to find bands that have e.g. 200 plays, not 200k plays. On main page on Soundcloud I found only "trending music" and searching by gernres. In my opinion Bandcamp is better becouse there is higher possibility to find music that is not well known by the audience.

Find a YouTube video that you like and go through the felated videos section and click on stuff you haven't heard, or you could go on last.fm and search related artists to the ones you like. Rateyourmusic is a great database where you can see the top rated albums within one genre as well as look at the members lists of top twenty prog albums or whatehaveyou. YorkeDaddy also gives a solid recommendation.
