Since not everyone knows a lot about each other's taste in music I thought this would be a fun way to share some tunes and get a feel for the members we don't know much about.

Step 1: Already in me.



Basically the first song I loved that I didn't hear on the radio. From the first album I loved. And my first favourite band. Still probably my favourite in all fairness. This period would include the likes of Neutral Milk Hotel, Beta Band,Belle and Sebastian, and all the other super cool indie kid bands.

Step 2: Catch the blast.



Obviously I have been listening to Hip Hop since I was a kid. Eminem was a big deal for me, and quite a few more at a younger age. But I didn't hear this album till I was 19 years old. It probably wasn't the first "hardcore" Hip Hop album I had listened to, but it was definitely the most impactful on me. Other Hip Hop artists I discovered and fell in love with back then include People Under the Stairs, Tha Alkaholiks and Ugly Duckling.

Step 3: Staring back at me.



Even in the perpetual state of try-hard obscurity at that time (though I am still obviously guilty of it), I would have been lying to myself if I didn't admit to enjoying most of JT's previous singles, so when I started hearing the buzz about this album I was interested. I vividly remember putting it on whilst I was having a few drinks getting ready to go out. And man, I was loving every fucking second. I ended up setting off late because I needed to listen to the whole thing. And this was quite possibly the first properly mainstream pop/r'n'b record I had loved and made the effort to listen to for YEARS. It led me to giving many other pop artists a chance, and checking new ones out. Maybe I would have done so regardless, but this album was definitely a push in the right direction.

Summary of my musical taste... I feel like I limited us too much only allowing three songs because the following does not represent clearly enough all the things I enjoy about music.

Florence and the Machine - Heavy In Your Arms


Oh Florence... I love you. Prior to finding her all I cared about was metal (on and off) and rap. She changed my taste quickly and had me searching for other unique female singers. My love for her first album started my journey into the Folk/Indie scene where I discovered acts such as Laura Marling, Emily and the Woods, and Lykke Li. I have since branched out to wide variety of music but I wouldn't have done it other wise.

Brad Sucks - Making Me Nervous


This track doesn't mean as much to me as Florence but I think it's a good representation of another kind of sound that I like. Not even sure what genre this is so I throw it in the indie category with everything else that doesn't receive radio play. I like the mellow sounds that somehow still have an energy about them and grab your attention. Nothing fancy, just nice easy listening. Good vibes. Some artists I would throw into this category if asked would be Hozier, Graveyard(TY Carpe ;)), Arctic Monkeys, The Beatles, Jim Croce, and Squeeze.

Last Emperor - Karma


Last Emperor, my dude. Definitely not where my interest in rap began but this track is representative of all the things I value most in my hip hop today. Positive, well written lyrics, good story telling, a nice flow, and upbeat vibes. I still love my hardcore and political artists but I have a greater appreciation for the lyrics I can relate to on a personal level nowadays.

Soul/Funk (I chose a Funk track for this one, it was between this and "Move On Up" by Curtis Mayfield"


Jazz (I'm learning a ton in terms of this genre)
