Why are there so many love songs?

And why are most of them also poorly written(lyrics wise)? I mean like a girlfriend boyfriend relationship, not love between friends and family(that's fine), but love about their preffered sex. It's either love or sex. Why are there so god damn many? Seriously, I'm sick of them, it annoys me everytime I hear one.

It's a cliche riddled emotion.

Zhanteimi 12-17-2014 02:41 PM

Love isn't cliche, nor is it necessarily an emotion.

The lyrics written about it are cliched.

"One love feeds the fire
One heart burns desire
Wonder who's cryin' now
Two hearts born to run
Who'll be the lonely one
Wonder who's cryin' now"

Zhanteimi 12-17-2014 02:47 PM

Most, not all.

Well, of course.

Zhanteimi 12-17-2014 02:50 PM

I think the OP is talking more about infatuation or lust, not love.

Dylstew 12-17-2014 02:53 PM

Everything has exceptions. I've heard a few good ones. I'm talking about both, but I do mean only romnatic relationships and sex.

Family and friends is fine.

Zhanteimi 12-17-2014 02:58 PM

Well, take anything -- say, books. There are so many books out there; chances are most of them are crap. There are so many songs out there -- chances are most of them are crap. Romantic love and sex are common themes throughout humanity -- otherwise it'd be the end of the human race! :) Love songs are just another thing people create, and most people suck at creating things. End result: many crappy love songs.

Yet they tens to get the most popular somehow

What I find funny is how when I say I'd love to have my first girlfriend sometime since I haven't had one yet, people act like i'm weird because i'm "still young" (18 now but this has been so for a while). yet a lot of pop culture seems to act asif love is as important as the second coming of christ. It's everywhere, and usually portrayed extremely unrealistic. Like geez, there's more to life. Be a bit more original. Write about taking a sh*t for all I care, at least it's not the 9998075367th love song.

Zhanteimi 12-17-2014 03:39 PM

Hmmm. Sex sells?

Everything sells. Finding who to sell it to is the tricky part.

DeadChannel 12-19-2014 07:32 PM

There are a lot of ****ty rom com films.
There are a lot of ****ty romantic novels.

There are exceptions, but a love story (at least, a bad one) is easy to write. It's been done, there's a blueprint that's easy to follow, and you are pretty much guaranteed to sell stuff.

ladyislingering 12-19-2014 09:15 PM

because people like to write bullshit songs for the feeble-minded because they sell.

What annoys me is when they try to shove a romantic relationship in a movie that totallly didn't need it. They force two characters without any chemistry whatsoever into a relationship, and it's always very poorly done and unrealistic. It's like they think every movie HAS to have romance. If you're going to do it when it's totally unnecessary, at least do it well.

Pet_Sounds 12-20-2014 06:27 AM

You'd think that people would have had enough of silly love songs.

Good one.

I think the best 'love songs' are the ones that tackle relationships in a more realistic and three-dimensional way, or otherwise, have some really fantastic lyrics. Dylan was always good at making love sound exciting and mysterious and fresh again.

Focus groups are the problem, among other things

Don't know about Dylan since I never listened to him, but I agree with the rest.

Some people wanna fill the world with silly love songs. And what’s wrong with that?

<--- sings and plays killer bassline at the same time :)

impossible, for we've probably brushed shoulders and didn't even fucking know it, man.

Wpnfire 12-20-2014 11:28 PM

I blame the 70s.

I just love this sentence from the wiki entry for Toys in the Attic:

Quote:

By this point, Aerosmith had fully matured as a band and Steven Tyler made sex the primary focus of his songwriting on the album.
lol.

The word "mature" in that sentence seems so (humorously) misused it almost makes the sentence oxymoronic.

jazzpig 12-21-2014 01:02 AM

Everybody wants to be loved, man.

I'll listen to him at some point, it's just that my backlist for other genres is huge atm.

I don't mind the song, but the music video from Give My Regards to Broad Street… ugh.

Oh come on guys... we all love listening to cheesy love songs from time to time.

But its always best when its one of the classics like True Love Ways by Buddy Holly.

I really don't though, but maybe I'm just secretly jealous deep down inside. Either that or I'm a bitter old man deep down inside.
Except if it's this:

Mondo Bungle 12-21-2014 04:17 PM

"I Remember You" by Skid Row is one of my all time favorite songs

I was so in love with Buddy Holly when I was younger.

He really did have the perfect facial structure as well. And it always seemed so strange and radical to me that a young man from Texas was a rock n' roller. Heaven have mercy.

It's strange to me to think that I'm 3 years older than Buddy Holly was when he passed away - he accomplished so much in the short life he was given. It's incredible.

Pet_Sounds 12-21-2014 08:08 PM

I think the fascinating thing about Buddy's music is that it's like a time capsule. He never had the chance to grow stale -- we'll always think of him as young and exciting.

exactly.

forever young and beautiful.

edit: I just wanted to throw in that I grew up not far from where the plane that took his life had crashed. Spooky stuff.

Same with Morrison and Hendrix. Either only the good die young, or we perceive them differently because they died young.

On the edit, I live very close to where Gordon Lightfoot was born. He sometimes gives local shows at churches and so on, and I've met him upon occasion.
