Likewise, 2014 seemed pretty good to me. Just scanning through my iTunes by date I see albums I really enjoyed by Too Many Zooz, Tipper, Okiru, Mr. Bill, Liars, King Dude, Indian, Gridlink, Earth, Bongripper, Benjamin Booker, Bast, Babymetal and Actress. |

I forgot to mention so much stuff in my first post that I just really realized what an amazing year it has actually been in music considering this is my first full year that I've really went out and actually discovered a bunch of new stuff on my own. So maybe other people had better years but for me it has really been the year that has truly opened my mind up to so much new music.

I'm with Jans in essence, though I do generally know which years albums come out. 1991 might stick out to a lot of people because there were quite a few critically acclaimed albums released that year, which were also hugely popular. But it's certainly no better than 1992 in my experience.
If you want to look at it from a cultural/canon perspective, there is definite merit in what you say James. 2010 would certainly be one of those years. But to me personally (purely out of coincidence) I prefer every year that has followed it in terms of my own listening history.

I think we all agree, really. I can't think of a single moment in time where I was dissatisfied with the music being released, it's just that when I look back 2010 stands out. All years are likely of equal merit, but what makes a year stick in the memory is how 'of the time' the music feels and how big of an impact it made on both an individual's personal life and the world around them. When you think about years don't really mean anything anyway, and the last day of 2010 and the first day of 2011 are close to identical if looked at objectively.
It's weird this argument persists in music but hardly pops up in other mediums like painting and literature, where serious arguments could be made about their merit in a modern world. |

I think no matter your opinion on MBDTF, it is undoubtedly an album that will be remembered for a very long time.
Have One On Me is another big album from that year that really stands out to me. |
