The song is famous, maybe even iconic, but I don't think the film is in any respect. |

But as far as that group of people go, they seem to meet all of Soulflower's criteria by a mile. Their first six albums are definitely iconic. Even their two albums with Blaze Bailey are iconic in a negative way. |
Someone has probably already said this... But an icon is objective, in that its something recognizable by most people within a particular subset of music, and a legend is highly subjective. A legend can often be agreed on by multiple fans within that subset, or across all music, but ultimately its too strong a word to be anything other than opinion.

I take an icon to be somebody that everyone recognises just from a single image, even years later. Bob Marley is always the first I think of. Even of I didn't listen to Marley, didn't know anything about his life, I'd still know him because his image is still inescapable in our culture.
I could see Kanye West and his fancy sunglasses and clothing, as well as his political moments and public persona, being built to last. Especially now that he's married to Kim Kardashian, I am not a fan of hers but she is also a colossal star and that magazine cover had quite an impact, it could be looked back on as a Marilyn Monroe style pin up photo. |
~~~rihanna has sold more than frank Sinatra~~~
