Here's a bit of an obscure one, but I have a friend who says that the piano melody from U2's New Years Day is an intentional speeding up of the main melody from John Carpenter's Assault of Precinct 13. Although my friend is pretty into some deep facts, so that might actually be true, they do sound similar.

That's a pretty common chord progression that's been used a ton in songs.
