Default Your Top 50 Albums

I'm probably going to kick myself for making this thread, I find it very unlikely that this hasn't been done before, but after a handful of searches and no results... well.

There's a website that makes building a top 50 (or top 100) album collage very easy. It has a built in search engine with an impressively large archive of albums + album art, making the whole process a lot faster than it would be using Photoshop. Take some time to comb through your collection, throw together a quick list, it's really only the first 20 albums that are significantly ordered.

Topsters.net - Top50

It's more fun than work, you stumble upon a lot of old albums you haven't listened to in a while that you absolutely love. It's nice having one of these collages laying around too when you're looking for something to listen to.

Keep in mind that my ordering here doesn't say much about the literal quality, legacy, or historical significance of any of these albums. It's purely ordered by personal taste, it's about how often I find myself going back to listen to an album, it's based on my personal experience with each album and the memories I associate with them, not their overall importance in the musical world.

Is this site working for anyone else at the moment? It's not loading for me.

It's nice to see someone else who's into Secede, though. Tryshasla's such a great album.

Site works for me. Not sure why they make it mandatory for the "top 4 - second tier - other" categories tho. As if making a list narrowing it down to 50 isn't hard enough. The difference between #4 and #44 is basically non-existent in my case.

I don't think you do. If you click collage you can rearrange it but you have to register.

Nice find Epoch.

"Top 4" is quite odd. Why not 5? Their breakdown is weird. They have 16 in 2nd tier...why not top 5 and then 15 in the second tier, rounding out 20, and then the final set would have 30?

Making a top 50 is indeed very difficult. I'm busy making yearly top 10s now though, not sure I could come up with a top 50. I could look at the 5-star albums I have in my RYM library, but many are probably out of date.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

It's not an easy task, took me around an hour to sort it out and I ended up going back to it about 4 times over the following hour to change a few. The process is certainly worth the time, though, if anything it's less about ranking albums and more about forcing yourself to rediscover fantastic albums that you've forgotten about. The breakdown is strange, yes, but 50 albums is 50 albums regardless where the squares are on the page. I believe in you all, lets see some pictures.

I have to say I like some of your choices a lot, particularly Geogaddi, Music Has the Right to Children, the two best King Crimson releases, edIT (an old favorite), but am surprised at The Campire Headphase's place as #1 as it's the only BoC album I never got into.

Another thing about these images is I wish they were clickable. Some album covers are not recognizable by all and don't have clear text.

There is an option to display the artist and album names on the side of the image, so if you have an account and have saved your list to your profile, you can just enable that option and save, upload, and edit the updated image into your post, EPOCH.

Aye, I excluded the text due to auto image resizer plugins on another forum making the text too small to read. I'll re-add it and edit my OP.

I get a lot of strange looks online for being as into The Campfire Headphase as I am. I absolutely love Geogaddi, Music Has the Right to Children, and Tomorrow's Harvest, I would have placed them all closer to the top if I wasn't trying to avoid coming across as too much of a BOC fanboy, which I definitely am. But The Campfire Headphase has always clicked with me on a much more personal level than the others, it may be because it was the first BOC album I heard, it may be because of how well it jives with my environment (small town British Columbia, mountain valleys, rivers, and woods), it may be because it's the only BOC album with prominent guitar work which is my primary instrument, and it may just be a preference for lush psychedelia rather than some of the darker and more abstract psychedelia of Geogaddi and MHTRTC (at least when it comes to BOC). But eh, different strokes for different folks right.

I had half of the Top 50 completed before I lost all the work I did somehow. It took me a while to figure it out, like using the [tab->] button to fill out the registration instead of point and click. Some albums I wanted I had to find on my own and that also took time.
