At what point does sound experimentation stop becoming music? It's composed, it has rhythm, it has melody, it even uses conventional instruments to a smaller degree. I see Water Walk as a more explicit portrayal of sounds that we wouldn't normally consider music than 4'33. If those sounds were incorporated into a musique concrete piece, would you then consider it music? Or if you heard it without watching it?

I don't know if I've seen you answer the OP, what's your general take?

It's a guy randomly putting together a bunch of noises. There's no notes, no melody, no harmony, no sense of time, no sense of rhythm, no sense of even the slightest structure whatsoever.
surely these contradict each other, no?

No. In the first quote I mention notes being played. In the second quote I mention no notes being played.

Just my 2 cents BTW. It's all good if folks disagree with my "opinion" on these.

Those are notes though. Especially with the piano, but the other parts of the piece is comprised of notes as well, they're just not exactly tonal.

Exactly he was strumming many of the strings to add an overall ambiance it seems to pair with the more sharp resolute noises.

On another I just heard Dream by Cage beautiful piece and uses Bianca and silence in how notes are left ringing until they fade some of the time giving the sounds room to breathe as well as add something to it that it wouldn't have otherwise.

I think this may be one case where my age in betraying me. I was never exposed to a lot of the "noisier" genres nearly as much as I'd assume a lot of the younger members here were.

Maybe I'd have a much more open mind if I was 20 years younger.
